Souped up yard kart build

I cut off the *insert name of the piece that holds the spindles* and well, rust

thankfully it seems to be almost exclusively surface rust and after examining the rest of the pipe that I cut off the metal seems pretty healthy, I guess we won’t know 100% until I strip the paint. how moisture got in there is beyond me .

In order to prevent more moisture from getting in while it’s exposed I made some wooden plugs, doused the inside of the pipe with WD-40 and hammer them in hard

hopefully that will hold

10 degrees of caster is max.
1 degree of negative camber is max, 0 is ideal.
Anymore than that will result in poor tire wear and evil handling.

Caster sounds right but 1° of negative camber? I feel like I’ve seen quite a few karts with far more than that but perhaps not

I’d shoot for zero degrees of camber. Sounds like you may not know what exactly camber is. Zero will give you the largest contact pattern.

I fully understand the concept of camber and its pros and cons but if you’re saying zero, that’s what I’ll do. You do after all, have far more experience than me

My adapter is finally here! That means I’ll be able to start welding. I need to do a little bit more practice before I actually welded anything onto the kart but that should be relatively quick

don't give up. I found that the helmet matters more than skill. If you can't see the puddle, you'll be lost. My son is a certified welder and will not wear a helmet under $500.00. He's not arrogant, it really is " you get what you pay for" in welding helmets.

I agree. My uncle (the person who taught me to weld) recommend that I upgrade the helmet before anything else

Progress has been slow lately mostly due to a lack of financial resources but new bearing flanges and new engine plate should be on their way by the end of today!
