But why shim if I need to get somebody with a lathe to machine the pockets anyway?

If I had to shim the race, I would just not cut the pockets so deep.

The OD of outer race is about 1.61”
The ID of the “sleeve” (for the bearing pocket) is 1.50”
The ID of inner tube is 1.25”
The OD of protruding part is 1.29”

The thing to do, if i am following this correctly, is to weld the cup/sleeve thingies in place, then bore the clearance for the bearing.
The bore needs .040 off the diameter. How deep?

I believe 0.050” deep would be plenty.
I’m not good at drawing but think we are in same page.

In this artwork I believe I made the bore 0.050” off the diameter (if using your words correctly) instead of the 0.040”. To make the ID of that section 1.30” instead of the 1.29” I mentioned.

The 1.61” is just a guess for now . I forgot how tight the actual interference fit should be. This should be somewhere earlier in this thread.
The depth of the 1.61” ID cut isn’t that important. The race can stick out or be tucked a bit.

I currently have about 0.335” on one side and 0.350” on the other. The race height is about 0.355”. I think it can stick out 0.020” and be fine.

Bobs our very own version of Rube Goldberg. This is him “Going All Bob” aka GAB! Bob just take a die grinder and clearance it. It’s not in a critical area.

Well OK.
all the drawings, dimensions, and design work, are reminiscent of a frustrated, over qualified engineer working in a paper clip company's design department! :ROFLMAO:

Do my best to stay out of bars now. And the only relationship worth working at is the one with my dog… which requires zero work.

I was in school for mechanical engineering at university of Illinois, but 2.0 GPA halfway into sophomore year doesn’t get you invited back for a third year. Finished my school at Eastern IL with a degree in physics. Worked mostly with radiation. DARPA paid research project while in school to develop micro-watt radio-isotope powered nuclear batteries. At Oxford Instruments configuring and calibrating x-Ray spectrometers used in QC / R&D labs. Develop testing methods for new applications of x-Ray equipment. A lot of my time was spent with salesmen trying to convince scrap yard guys that $30k on a handheld scrap metal analyzer to quickly identify various metal elemental composition was better use of money than a new truck.

I did tend bar for a while, but not at a strip joint. I don’t think they let like guys tend bar at the gentleman’s clubs around here. No guys going to the strip club want to look into my baby blues while waiting for their beer.

Do you have an idea of what Mrs Esterhaus will look like?
I think this is the best idea of what she will look like. SawHorse Esterhaus III

Maybe a tapered base pointing to the bottom of a single down tube? That red corner looks like it wants to hit stuff. This was a simple design that o thought would be simple to assemble. As far as frames from scratch go.
