You'll have to remove the torque converter and the chain, then disconnect the throttle cable and any wiring to the engine before you can remove it. Like ezcome says, plop the new engine on the kart & see how it fits. Might need some tweaking, maybe not. Reinstall in reverse order.

Grab a can of carb or brake cleaner, start the engine cold then spray cleaner around the base of the intake and see if the RPM's change. This will tell you if it's sucking air through a bad base gasket or rubber seal. New intake manifolds are available. Could be a hairline crack in the manifold...

See if there are any markings on the chain, sometimes the size is stamped into one of the links.

A new machine shouldn't need a new filter already. Make sure the fuel line isn't kinked or restricted somehow and make sure the fuel valve is completely open. Maybe crack the gas cap open slightly on a level road or surface and see if anything changes. Could be the gas cap isn't venting. Have...

With the engine off, the throttle goes wide open. When the engine starts, the governor takes over and lowers the engine speed. Since you have no governor you'll need to add a hefty return spring to close the butterfly at start up to keep the engine from running away when it starts.

You normally splice into or connect to the wire running to the coil mounted at the flywheel. Go with a push button style switch as opposed to a toggle switch, this way you never forget to flip the switch and pull the rope or crank the starter over and over before you realize the switch is off...

Did you install every gasket when you put the carb back on or install them correctly? If you missed a gasket the engine will run lean, suck in too much air and race/idle high.

Jim, I realize the clutch needs bolted to the crankshaft. What I meant was if there were set screws machined into the clutch, tightening those could keep the clutch from sliding in and out on the crankshaft if I understood him right. I would never trust set screws as the only way to secure a...
