Trailmaster Mini forward momentum after gas oedal released

Trailmaster mini. I just replaced the carb in my daughters go kart. The cart continues to move forward even without pressing the gas. I adjusted the screw on the carb counter clockwise but it continues to keep going after the gas is released. There is also a delay when mashing the gas pedal before the kart will go but once it starts moving it's hard to stop. I do have the screw beneath the pedal to keep her at a lower speed but once gas starts feeding to the engine the kart goes faster and faster. Thanks! I'm new to this if you can't tell lol.

Are the return springs on both the carburater and the gas pedal working as they should? If not, replace them or add stronger ones. If they are working properly, then disconnect the throttle cable at both ends and verify the cable slides easily. If not, you can try some light weight oil ( like 3 in 1 ) or some WD-40. If it's beyond repair, all of the go kart supply shops sell new ones. Pay attention to the ends, there are only 2 or 3 different kinds. Measure the length and if it's not available in the exact same size, get the next longer size. You can always add an extra gentle bend to use up the extra length.

Why did you replace the carburetor? Agree with pancho, check your governor springs to make sure they're installed correctly. See if this video helps.

If the idle speed is set too high, it can cause the kart to run away as soon as it is started up. No telling if the screw you adjusted was the right one or not.

Did you install every gasket when you put the carb back on or install them correctly? If you missed a gasket the engine will run lean, suck in too much air and race/idle high.
