Whats this colorful junk? 50$ kart find

Whatever it is, it looks like a pretty good candidate for a live axle. But for $50, that isn't a bad find. I paid $100 for a manco 415-10 frame that only had 2 flat tires on cracked wheels, and a 30mph speed limit sign, held on by tap-cons, for a floor pan. But the steering wheel, front axle...

piston wear normal? (and con rod picture)

Yep, that rod's done. But what worries me is the scoring at the very top of the piston. I almost think you should lap the valves just in case. But overall I wouldn't say that the piston is to heavily damaged, though that is a bit much for just 40 hours. I've always ran Castrol GTX 10w30...

    Quick Bits

Well, it's not getting fuel to the carb, so it's either the fuel lines, or the fuel pump. The good news is that the engine is a '78, so it has a mechanical fuel pump, so the tank won't need to be dropped to replace it. And a new pump is about $20. Although there is a good chance that it's the...

So I went to see my uncle last week, and he's working on getting that truck to stay running (fuel problems). So if all goes well I should have it by spring break (The week after next). I'll post some pics in the "more builds" section.

Your first or favorate project then and now

My drifter when I got it: And my drifter now (It still needs paint): My first frame off build. I did a live axle conversion, running a p212, and 4.8:1 gearing. I made the seat myself. I figure I spent about $750.

    Baja Warrior foot pegs

Thanks guys, welding is out of the question at the moment. I have a Lincoln ac-225s, but it's a 240 welder, and I'm working off a 120 extension chord. And I don't have the money to run 240n out to my garage. I got the 72t mocked up yesterday. I only need another 6" of chain (4' 5" to be exact)...

    Baja Warrior foot pegs

Yeah, those forks suck. My right fork has an oil leak. But a TC and governor removal, and these things are awesome (mine with those mods will hit 55, and sometimes 59 (valve float) with the wind at your back). Still haven't had time to install the 72t sprocket.

I use my dewalt power drill for loosening and tightening bolts in a hurry, after starting them by hand. It doesn't have the power of an impact, but it's perfect for what I need. Plus I can back down the torque limiter/slipper, and tighten 10-32 bolts without worrying about stripping them out. I...

    Yerfdog Spiderbox, Briggs 1550 help

You've done some work to this thing. But I don't think it'll ever catch that Trans Am SD. But that carb should be plenty for that engine.

    Head stud torque question

Ok, those instructions are stupid, and have a few spelling issues. But I'd locktite then without any wd40 or oil. And I'd follow the package for installing the studs, and the factory specs for torquing down the nuts during assembly. And Personally I like this guide...

Whietrashrocker and mckutzy, don't get me wrong, the sound of a 50 cal is cool, but when your go kart does that every 100 feet, it's kind of hard to explain to your neighbors. Although all you have to tell my neighbors is "Don't look at me, the stupid thing came from china." They immediately...

I know the governor wheels explode at those rpms, the reason I didn't remove it was because everything was still hooked up. Like I said, it was like that out of the box. I just didn't catch it until after the break-in (I did the 1/3 throttle for 3 hours break-in). Also it was still under...

    Hard starting 212cc!!

Yeah, that's a bit close. If I'm remembering this right, the stock rods don't make it much past 6k rpm, but the billet rods have been used in engines that rev 10k. The reason is the oiling. The stock rod relies on oil falling into a hole in the rod, which leads to the journal, which doesn't...

Yeah, I made the mistake of getting a hemi because of that. It went back a week later. Out of the box it was backfiring out of the intake, which melted the inside of the intake runner a bit, and it was doing almost 33mph (the gps world flicker between 32 and 33), which translated to 4800rpm. And...

    50$ gokart

Actually I have some that were used on a small gate for about a year. The rims are warped, and the bearings are fried. And it was used on a gate! Although I must say the floater tires from tractor supply are almost as bad (the tubes leak, and they have the same bearings, but the rims are tough...

I don't have a pic of my Tahoe but I do have one of my grandfathers car. And I'd bet you'll be able to identify it immediately. It's an '88 and either a Z52 (Street performance) or Z51 (Track performance) option, since it has the 17" wheels. 350 SBC with TPI, and 700r4 auto.

If you used a jackshaft for the right engine the answer is most likely.

    50$ gokart

I'd think you'd have been here long enough to know that absolutely no part of the hf tires are good for karts. The bearings disintegrate after a few hundred feet, the bolts are pure rustable butter, the tubes leak, and the tires come apart after a few miles. And we're talking serious tread peel...

Well, If you're looking to purposely blow it up, you can't go wrong with bouncing it off the limiter at the same time as a hundred shot of nitrous, after about 20 pounds of boost. But why? I mean, you have a car that runs, that you don't have to pay for, that has a non interference engine, and...
