I've been working on turning my '14 Baja Warrior into a trail beast, but I've always been afraid of standing up on the bike. I'm mostly worried about the strength of the stock footpegs. I've had my foot slip off a pedal on a bicycle before, and it didn't feel good at 10 mph, I'd hate to have one break at 45 mph like the bike will do soon (it does around 55-58 ish now, but I'm going up 22 teeth in back for more torque). So do any of you know how strong these pegs are? Most of my riding is on sand, but there are some rolling whoops and a few small logs (like 4-6 inches), and one really rutted spot. And I weigh 150 if that helps. I'd be fine with swapping them out, and using bolts instead of the pins.

A bit of other info:
Stock engine, just a governor removal and full rebuild.
30 series china tav on a comet backplate (used a metric lug nut to hold the driver on).
9t driving a 50t (swapping for a 10t driving a 72t).

They will bend before they break if you jump the bike a lot. They seem to be positioned too far forward to stand on anyway, don’t they?

Yeah, they do seem a bit far forward. I might see about adding a bar that will double as a rear engine spacer. And there aren't many places around me with jumps, just lots of trails.

I could see that being a bit too breakable. And I'd bolt on some flatstock to the front and back of the pipe that has some teeth filed into it, so it'd be a bit more like a dirtbike or quad footpeg..

Baja in Minibike ICU

In addition to the pegs bending the mounts for them on my Baja where welded on by a drunk party member :) the mounts where real crooked. My Baja is in the Minibike ICU at the moment ...new footpegs in better location , TC, engine mods and new front forks. Yeah the front forks where ready to fall off....

Yeah, those forks suck. My right fork has an oil leak. But a TC and governor removal, and these things are awesome (mine with those mods will hit 55, and sometimes 59 (valve float) with the wind at your back). Still haven't had time to install the 72t sprocket.

Baja Foot Peg and Forks Mods

Heres some pictures of the Foot Peg and Front Forks Mods on the Baja. The front forks came from GoPower Sports - I modified the original triple tree/fork clamps.

I have snapped two of those pegs off. And when you do that it leaves a gouge in the frame. A huge gouge...
If you have access to a welder I would reinforce the pegs with gussets oh, that's what I did and that solved my problem.

I also added frame gussets up near the forks oh, and I did a quarter inch thick motor plate oh, I forgot I actually used thick wall tubing for the pegs, I did gussets on a bike.

Thanks guys, welding is out of the question at the moment. I have a Lincoln ac-225s, but it's a 240 welder, and I'm working off a 120 extension chord. And I don't have the money to run 240n out to my garage.

I got the 72t mocked up yesterday. I only need another 6" of chain (4' 5" to be exact), so I can get away with buying 5' of chain instead of 10'. I also cleaned up the brake pads with some sandpaper, since they were black and glazed. And I greased the thing that turns to push apart the pads, where it turns inside the cover.

Dumb question what is a govornor?

While people don't mind answering questions....we do sometimes wish that people would use google before asking. I just saw another thread where you were asking what a pitbike was.

Now if it were me, and I was really interested in finding out the answers to these questions instead of potentially waiting a day before a forum member decides to answer you, I would use Google. Google is your friend
