Isn't the progressive wind supposed to dampen the harmonics by design? Same as a bee hive design?

I tried to find an answer but couldn't get a definite on direction.

Got my nibbi carb in and so it's another episode of wtr garage.

I was impressed by the feel and quality of this carb. Thumbs up nibbi. The polished innards and throttle valve move like they look. Like silk. Nicely packaged with 4 main and 2 idle jets included.

OK. Nothing is ever just bolt on.
Had to shorten the stud. No biggie.

I knew I was gonna have to port matching the intake. So I got my everlasting tube of blue goo.

And transfered to the intake.

Thats not a good match.
Pulled out the glass plate and sure nuff. The intake rocked like a Pringle. Sanded it flat and tried again. Imagine that.

A quick minute with the dremel fixed that.

20241105_175600.jpg

Got the ports clean and smooth.
Attached the carb to the engine. Fuel line on. Throttle cable attached and adjusted.

Time to fire her up.

Wow. Needed very little tweeking to get idle speed and idle air jet set. Gave her a few throttle whacks! Instant response. It's dark now and I'm itching to go zoomie. Pleased with how this carb is feeding this new cam, I give her some more throttle whacks. Then I see the carb wiggle. Umm....
Idle revs up with no input and then dies.

Crap.

The intake manifold decides that the sheer horsepower gain is too much and didn't want to play anymore. Boo.

So with my tail between my legs I close shop for the night.

Hurry up Mr Brown Santa. Bring me my new parts...

So the NIBBI is a flange style carb? That does t match the stud spacing of the head?

Most of the intake adapters I’ve played with are for spigot style carbs. Metal adapters with a rubber sleeve.

The only time I needed a flange to flange adapter is when I put a gx390 carb on a 212.

PS. I see they come in both styles.

Got this dongfeng kart back to put a new head on.

I see the starter chain rub block is rubbed away so I get some of them too.
Parts come in.

I struggle to get the cam back on. It fell off. Watch a few vids. Yup they just toss it on.
What's the issue. I can't get past here. Hard stop.

20241108_143007.jpg

I didn't want to take the sprocket out of the chain cause it was timed still.

Then I catch on. I see witness marks. Drop the sprockets to compare.

Really.

The larger gear hits the walls of the cam gear opening.

I have to get the odd ball.
Every thing is 28t I have the 32t.
The majority of the 32t cam heads are the big valve version. This is a small valve.

I had to search but found one. But it's on the slow boat now. Ugh.

Something is always taking a sheet around here. It's not always me though.
Finally got my intake manifold.
It was flatter than the old one and I dremeled the orifice to match again.

But now it's spitting oil out the exhaust. I don't think the head gasket like being reused.

Went back and retorqued the head. Got a half turn or more.

Ran it some and had to readjust the idle air screw. It seemed to poof less and the spitting oil has decreased. I'm assuming build up in the pipe will clear out shortly.

Im guessing it was rich with oil and hence the added air was needed.

Also noted some oil on the cylinder fins from before. Gonna clean it and see if the leak quit.

It was a dreary cold rainy day so no laps. But I'm think the engines ready. Still gotta drop the axle and fix that hub. Thinking of broaching a new keyway and maybe cut, drill and tap the other side for a screw.
It just won't tighten on the axle. 20230909_191538.jpg
