Joe, that T-bucket is really really nice. Some really good stuff there, spindles for old juice drums, Corvair steering box, gorgeous valve covers and I am really digging the rear shocks tucked up inside the rear coils....thats really clean looking. Hope you get to give another one a go, and find an honest DMV clerk. Folks build kit cars and vintage replicas all the time, it should be fairly straight forward. Some real talent there in your build.

Ok, so about my jig. Here is the first evenings worth. Not much but its a start. I need to find someone tomorrow to put the two bends in my axle, so thats on the new agenda. But in the meantime I started laying things out in preparation of welding the fixture tabs to my jig. At this point there are 4, and they hold the angle brackets in place and at the correct angles, and two of them do double duty and hold the axle straight in jig. The angle brackets here have already been notched so the axle sits down inside them.

Hope it is starting to make a bit more sense.

Oh Joe, if you and whomever else is interested, here is more info on my roadster build.
click away if you want.

:roflol: My first thought was how is he gonna put the chassis in the jig and with the front axle. Which is exactly what others were thinking also i think. But i looked at it again and figured the axle was going sideways.

And here is suspension pic and the itchy scratchy stuff i did with the body and molding it to the bed..............

Thats sooooo nice Joe!!!

Ok, here is my axle in its jig.

Here is the finished jig, minus the axle.

Here is the finished axle with the spindles and tires temp mounted.

15 degrees of castor dialed in, minus 2 degrees of chassis rake net 13 degrees of caster, hopefully that will be enough, the tires seem to have plenty of flop to them.

And its first fitting into the chassis.

I am really really happy with the outcome so far. I could not find anybody handy to bend my tubing on Friday, but then the light bulb came on. Just notch the tubing bend to correct angle. Worked perfectly, and the new weld is inside of the angle brackets, so none of the stress is actually even carried by that portion of the axle. Cheap, and sanitary in my book.

Onward and upward!!!! Its officially a roller. Next up tie rods and steering shaft.

You don't want a bigger engine?

Eventually. But this is the grandsons first go'round with a kart or anything similar. I'd rather have this on for a few days and then if he shows a knack for it either bypass the governor or put my 212 on. Hes 10 and doesnt get much exposure to this kind of stuff other than the week hes with us once a year. I was 14 when I got my first kart, but had eat, slept, drank racing since I was about 4. So within a few hours of my first time on it, we were tweaking the front axle to make it turn better, bypassing the governor and I was broadsliding like an old hot shoe in the field. Who knows maybe he will surprise me. It was only 80 bucks, money well spent for a few hours of piece of mind IMO. Hes not my kiddo to just throw in the deep end.

My kids Razor Karts Weight 94 pounds + a 50 pound kid. With that motor, On 13" tall tires, 72/11 or 6.5:1 gearing it would barely get going. Regeared with a jack shaft to about 11:1. Moves real good for 8 and 9 yr old rookies.
Just sayin you may want to gear it a little lower than normal. 3hp is one thing but the advertised torque is like 2.5 IIRC. Its in the manual.

No chancer, because its so beautifully done. Everything looks seemsless and perfect.

Thank you kindly for those very nice compliments...I am very humbled.

I am trying really hard to make this as clean as possible. Its such a departure from the normal kart fabrication, there is a consistant flow of tweaks and modifications.

The latest of what I have been designing.

And here is the first fitting of my "lil" power plant...
...snug as a tiny bug in a rug
