Does anyone know how to remove the governor gear from an OHH50 tecumseh engine? I have the crankcase cover of, i just can't figure out how the gear is attached.

I'm not totally sure how it is on a briggs, but there should be a timing mark on both the camshaft gear and the crankshaft. Line these up, they should look like dots, i'm pretty sure.

After a few breakdowns far away from home, I've decided to put together a portable tool kit. I figure I'll have some sockets, screwdrivers, but any other suggestions?

Got the carb today, and put it on. It worked great, after a little bit of adjustment. I thought I could feel some gain.

is that just a dressed up ohh55?

i was talking about the plastic camshaft; i realize i need to remove the governor gear.

wow, i'm surprised. From the look of that thing, I can't imagine it spinning around at 5000 rpm.

something i forgot to mention- my engine is one of the ohh tecumsehs with the plastic cam gear. will this be a problem?

any damage i'll risk though? Its a 5hp tecumseh, I know those things aren't kings of reliability.

am I at risk to throw a rod if i remove the governor but leave stock valve springs? I'm hoping the valve float will limit enough so nothing flies out of the crankcase and kills me.

my original 5 hp carb was non adjustable; I ordered a non epa 8 hp carb with adjustable main and pilot jets. It should, in theory, bolt right up. I figure I'm better off with adjustable jets than having to do multiple rejets as more is done to the engine.

yeah, sorry, i meant 5hp tecumseh. I might try it, since an 8hp carb is like 15 bucks on ebay

Does anyone know if a 8hp tecumeh carb will work on a 5hp engine instead of doing a rejet after an intake and exhaust upgrade?

Can anyone tell me what the 356 indicates? Its built for an ohh55 engine, but i think i heard somewhere that ohh50, ohh55 and ohh60 share a camshaft. Can anyone confirm this?

on my OHH50 tecumseh, oil seems to leak onto the crankshaft, and spatters everywhere when I run the engine. i just replaced the crankcase gasket. could it be residual oil from changing the gasket left on the crankshaft, or do i need to replace whatever sealing parts there are?

after a lot of cutting my hands, as well as finding out that JB weld IN NO WAY lives up to its claimed 550 fahrenheit heat resistance, my homemade exhaust is complete.

So far I have the air filter and header on, but I need a decently quiet muffler that fits a 1" unthreaded header. any ideas?
