on my OHH50 tecumseh, oil seems to leak onto the crankshaft, and spatters everywhere when I run the engine. i just replaced the crankcase gasket. could it be residual oil from changing the gasket left on the crankshaft, or do i need to replace whatever sealing parts there are?

What Doug tries to say Danny,

is that if you are not sure where the oil comes from,
how can we be; with less information than you have?
(any visual hint)

But, we might be able to assist narrowing it down..

wipe the engine clean, as clean as you can, then get some fresh rags (or better paper towels) and wrap your engine with those..
run it for a few seconds, unwrap and you will have a nice oily spot telling you where to take a closer look.

While I totally agree on "NOT cheaping out",

I'd still check where the oil is leaking first.. it's a major PITA to spend even a dollar,
just to find yourself replacing the wrong part and you still have a leaking engine.
Especially if you have to disassemble that thing again the very next day, maybe break the crankcase cover gasket while doing so and starting all over again.

So, find the spot, get all you need at once and you'll be able to fix that in no time,
and most of all in "one go" :D
