Grand Daddy Build - Advice on Modifications?

Yeah, I'm new to the Karting world, and just learned about this kart type. It looks pretty cramped, especially for more of an offroad type where you will be thrown around a bit. Their videos on the website look like the guys knees are into the steering wheel. That seems acceptable for those...

Grand Daddy 420cc Predator Fuel Economy/Range

I know its not real world, but the manual for the Predator 420 says 3 hours at 50% throttle. Not sure if that helps at all, but its what I came across today. That's with a 1.03 gal tank the manual says. If it were me I wouldn't bother with a bigger tank, I would just get some one gallon gas cans...

    Comet vs knock off

Ok, so anyone used both a Comet torque converter and a knock off torque converter, is the Comet worth the higher cost? I'm talking like a cheap one from Amazon of unknown origins. It's tough because human psychology makes us feel that if we spent more on something we are gonna have a bias that...

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

Hmm. That MIGHT work. I will have to call GPS tomorrow to get the dimensions of it. It's tough because the engine pretty much touches the mounting tabs that the shaft is mounted through.

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

https://www.gopowersports.com/fully-adjustable-motor-plate-small-block/ Is this it? Hmm that might work, so I would bolt it through the TC plate and then bolt the engine to it. Right?

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

Yes, after looking at it again the engine shaft is not long enough for a spacer to align with the driven pulley from the TC. The spline hub for the driver pulley would only be half on the shaft. I dont think the aluminum alignment plate will work in this scenario due to this set up. You are...

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

So this guy had the same situation and it looks like he just scrapped the original Yerf Dog TC and got a TC mounting plate that attaches to the engine. I'm gonna take it apart tomorrow and take some more pictures and I'm thinking about cutting my TC mounting plate and drilling some new holes...

What kind of seat belts you guys using?

I might get this one for the kart I'm thinking about putting the 301 or 420 in. Thanks for the suggestion about Jegs.

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

See post 8 for updates From what I can tell this is the original torque converter that came on the Yerf Dog 3202. I bought the kart with the new 212 on it but it had never been used, started or even have a belt on it since the engine was installed. The driver pulley was missing. I bought a new...

What is your question about bolts?

    212 vs 301 vs 420?

That's kinda what I was thinking. So does it take a lot more to get the 420 in there? What about the 301? 301 kinda in between the 212 and 420.... I was already thinking about getting the 301, should I just go up to the 420? I'm around 215lbs and 6ft. Don't know if the wife would ride with me...

    212 vs 301 vs 420?

I have a yerf dog 3202 that needs some work including a new engine and torque converter. This one is gonna be mainly for me and or my wife to drive, kids wont be driving it. What are the possibilities and draw backs with putting a bigger engine in it? 212 vs 301 vs 420? I know the 301 and more...

    Building gokart using wooden PALETTE

I gotcha, on #19 I think years of trial an error would apply to the airplane building technique anyway. It would also be a project of just doing it for fun and to see if you could as well. But, the likelihood of it being successful is FAR greater than using a pallet. I mean just starting with...

What kind of seat belts you guys using?

Cool, that's exactly what I was thinking, especially on the helmets. Looking around on Amazon the four point harnesses are twice as much or more than normal car like three point seatbelts. But, all the four point harnesses get like 4.5 or 5 star reviews and the three point seatbelts are getting...

    Frame structure

The other way to do it is to cut tiny spacers made out of round tube to put inside the square tube. So the bolt will go through a washer, through one wall of your square tube through the round tube spacer, through the second wall of your square tube, through a second washer and then finally...

What kind of seat belts you guys using?

Title says it all pretty much. I was thinking about getting some four point harnesses because I plan on the kids driving it. Am I going overboard? Is a regular old lap belt enough? Anyone require their kids to wear helmets so they don't smash their heads against the roll cage? I used to ride...

    Is this what I need?

I bought a go kart that needs some work done. It came with a brand new engine but is missing some pieces for the drive train. I have included some pictures of the torque converter that it came with and the one other part that I have loose. Like I said it has a new engine, so it seems like this...
