Flashlights for headlights and marker lights

I dont want to bother with getting a 12v battery and using normal 12v lights. Anyone use flashlights and mounts for bike handlebars? I am kinda into flashlights so I have a decent amount of them and their batteries, figured just use them. Anyone have experience doing this? Suggestions? This...

    Rust removal methods.

Maybe that's why it didn't work with my rusted on wheel. I was watching a video about it before I did it and they were saying the powder you use determines what gas it produces. I used washing soda I think. I left my garage door partially open with fans blowing and checked on it often. It still...

    Rust removal methods.

I used Rust O Leum rust remover gel and it worked pretty well on an easy part. I tried the washing soda and 12v with sacrificial piece of steel. It worked pretty well, but didn't get the wheel off the axle. I dont know what I did wrong but the jumper cables I used melted down. So definitely be...

    Axle rust prevention

I greased the axle all up when I was installing it. Will have to remember to grease up the engine shaft when I install the pulley for the final assembly.

    Steering questions

Ok cool, question solved. Kinda poor design from manufacturer. I guess after I get it all done I will look at it again and see if I want to build a skid plate.

Is the circled part what you are talking about that is bent on yours? I think that's possibly an improvement on your Yerf Dog over mine. This doesn't look damaged and that's how it appears in the manual.

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

I think the red one I have pictured is original from a Yerf Dog. I think I want to separate the engine from the TC plate though, as opposed to the engine and TC from the engine mounting plate on the kart. I will have to check I out.

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

Oh that's an idea. I will have to get some longer bolts and some spacers and try that. I need a new chain anyway, the one on there is no good, I was using it to mock everything up.

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

I will have to check for a washer.

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

I will have to check that all out. I was joking with my wife that the bolt head was self clearancing, she didn't get it.

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

That looks like the exact same thing I have. I'm thinking I should just get a new TC with mounting plate that mounts to the engine. That way I know it will line up. I was trying to re-use this one since panchothedog was talking about the 7in driven pulley being better than the replacement 6in...

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

Well, I thought I had it all figured out, until I put the chain on. The chain hits a bolt head on the engine when it goes around the two sprockets (circled with yellow) I dont get it, the two pulleys line up well. You can barely see the driver pulley on the engine circled in red and the TC...

    Axle rust prevention

I had to cut the axle in half to get it out because the wheels were rusted on to the axle. I tried just about everything including a press. Anyway, what's the best way to prevent this from happening on my new axle? Especially where the wheels are? Anti-seize slathered all over where the wheels...

    Steering questions

Is this the correct set up for my kart? It looks like the manual I downloaded, but dang it goes quite a bit below the frame. Is there a way to get it above the frame? I thought about flipping the Pittman arm (#50) so the tab is not at the end of the steering shaft. But then the holes done...

What am I doing wrong? Update in post 16

I think I got it. Using the part that Pancho suggested. It's lined up pretty good. I did drill two holes in the TC plate and engine plate to get this other part to mount correctly. You can see the plate sandwiched between the TC plate and engine. Thanks for the help Panchothedog

Should I use clear coat on my go kart?

Yup, agreed. I'm not sure how well this camo paint that I used is gonna last. Hope it does because I spent a good amount of time and money on it. Time will tell. As far as OP and clear coat and touch ups. Yeah, use a clear coat and then if touch ups are needed a really light sanding to scuff...

Grand Daddy Build - Advice on Modifications?

They make the sprockets that are two pieces and easy to change out. If you are starting from scratch you may want to check that system out. 60T seems to be highly common but it may be something you want to experiment with due to your riding style/location. Just my thoughts, I dont have...

Grand Daddy 420cc Predator Fuel Economy/Range

I dont know that I would consider them sticks of dynamite. If using quality gas cans and mounting hardware it shouldn't be an issue anymore than a larger gas tank. It's a common occurrence for off road vehicles. Plus you have the added flexibility of having a portable gas can to use in case you...

Should I use clear coat on my go kart?

I sanded down my kart till it was not shiny and sanded the rust off. Then we cleaned with water then isopropyl alcohol. Did like three coats of primer then 2-3 coats of my base layer. Cleaning between each coat. Then I did a camouflage paint job, cleaning between each coat/color change. Finally...
