I would have to cut top and bottom A-arms but it is do-able. If I don't cut the top, it will still bind. I checked, I think I have just enough room behind the heim joints to make the cut. I have been checking e-bay for better shocks, but they are only 9 3/4" eye to eye.

No, That's just 22 degrees down. The shocks only allow two inches of travel. I can jump on the front end right now and it only seems to move about 1 1/2 inches. I weigh 180 lbs. No, As soon as I try to dial in neg camber, it jams the heim joints because it also changes the KPI. They are set as...

I had to look at the picture to see what you were referring to, I was standing closer to the front, perspective makes them look bigger. All 4 tires and rims are same size actually. :D Made me laugh though. :sifone:

Here is another link to a pdf file that I found interesting and easier to understand http://www.nordstrom-karting.com/doc/setup/Front%20End%20Geometry%20Technical%20Article.pdf

Since they don't say otherwise, I assume they are right hand thread at both ends? If not, make sure you work at the right hand end. (unless you have left hand dies) You can do one of two things depending on how much you need to cut off the length. 1: Run your 5/16 24 die onto the existing...

    Need some good bearings

If you are lucky enough to have a small 1 man shop who specializes in bearings, he would be the goto guy. I have one here, walk in with the remains of any bearing and he can replace it. Doesn't make any difference what it came out of, car. lawn mower, washing machine, you get the idea. Tell him...

Hello all......Joel's the "gokart Old Tech"

Welcome aboard Joel. I'll second T-Mans request for pictures of past projects. I'll also second your comments on all the help received here and I've only been at this for 3 months. Age is only a state of mind :cheers2:

T-Man, I couldn't believe how small they are. Once it is out of its waterproof case, it looks like something my grandson would bring home from the Dollar store. I'll check out everything you mentioned. Hopefully will have video soon. :sifone:

    Arachnid Build

Wobbly, I downloaded it, but had not read it yet, Been spending my spare time trying to figure out how to see and edit video from a little camera that I picked up to mount to the kart. But, :wai: , Thanks for pointing that out.

    UK Arachnid build

Wobbly, the only issue I can see is adjusting your setup. Course thread means each 1/2 turn will move your clevis joints almost twice as much as fine thread would. Probably not a big issue on these karts. The plate with nut welded to it a good idea, for the added threads. What Bill and I did...

The ones you got from BMI look like this? Aluminum with L & R handed threads? How much do you need to shorten it?

Bill, just change the .ca to .com after ebay and you should see US pricing. The guy is in the states. http://stores.ebay.com/QS-Components_Cone-Spacers_W0QQ_fsubZ12212889QQ_sidZ61394735QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322 Yes, I did get the rails from Jegs, along with the seat and cushion. Don't drill...

T-Man, got my Go-Pro last Thursday, but I have yet to able to edit or even view any tests I have made. Quick Time won't play them, Windows Movie Maker crashes all the time on me, Never tried to use it before now. I think I have another whole learning curve in front of me trying to figure out...

Bill, They are cone spacers, I got off E-bay. They are the same idea as the ones you made to allow the suspension to get full travel. Checks out this guys store, got a few things of interest. :drool5...

    Arachnid Build

Thanks, Wobbly. My big concern now is whether or not it's big enough for me. I plan on installing the steering tomorrow, but I have a feeling my knees are going to be wrapped around it . Time will tell. I hate to have to cut it half at this point to add extra length. Thought I might be...

    Arachnid Build

Finally, :bannana::bannana::bannana: A rolling chassis (not steerable yet). I built new tie rods today. Ones I ordered from BMI were too long (after asking the builder the proper length, not even considering we widened the front suspension block by 1"). Plus they had heim joints on both ends...

    Arachnid Build

:iagree: It makes sense that there would be. You would just take the average length of a road kart, make it for that. I would think most road karts are an average length & width. However, I don't see any around here, so who knows? :o

Theo, I adjusted the upper Heim joints in to the point that they were jamming an this is where I am at regarding the steering geometry. The drop angle of the A-Arms is 22 degrees at max. The heim joints will jam at this point, unless I take the mini grinder and gently carve out some of the...

Arachnid Build, ... or is it! (Highly Modified)

Nice work Bill, I don't have a clue how that is all going to work. Looking at those gears, it seems one axle would force the other to turn backward. Obviously not the case. I can see I'm going to have to spend time with my friendly neighborhood mechanic to get an understanding of how...
