I certainly am Wobbly, but I doubt I would have made this far without the help and encouragement of others on this site. I just had the one set of adjustable shock mounts, plans don't say where to use them. It would probably be nice to have a set on the rear suspension as well. I need...

Like Bill says, I just slapped it all together to see what it looked like. No attempt yet to dial in the proper settings. I do know Tie rods are too long, almost zero Ackerman at this point :mad2:. I have them set to minimum length and still too long, I need to build a set of shorter tie rods...

Have not moved the rear shock mounts yet, but I have figured out the easiest way to do it, just wanted to get the chassis done so I start work on the motor mount. :ack2: LOL, They weren't specified where to use them, but I bought them, and I finished the front suspension last, so I had to use...

It was August 27, 2010 and I was planning on having a rolling chassis at the end of the day. Here it is Sept 2, 2010, 7 days later. I'm almost there. past week has been fitting and running for last minute parts, with little of any accomplishment showing. Today, I finally welded the front...

Relax, Use what you got. There are may different ways to accomplish the same results. Acetone first (with appropriate safety precautions), change out your paper towels often, or you will just be spreading the oil around. Then, follow the directions of the paint manufacturer. I see you...

Looks like I was adding it as you were writing your message. Thought I might have got in added before anyone noticed, but this place is far too active for that. :o Next time, after this acetone is gone, try TSP, I get it here in Canada at Home Depot, you may be able to get it there. Should be...

    Arachnids

Since you are in the UK, I would definitely not recommend The Arachnid. As R97 said, It is a specific plan, using primarily American components. Shipping is going to be outrageous for parts that you cannot acquire in the UK. Check Wobbly's build, he is also in the UK. There are currently 3 of...

If your going to use acetone for cleaning,:ack2: make sure you wear the proper gloves. Do not use with your bare hands. Heavy latex gloves are probably your best bet. Here is a link to glove selection and chemical resistance...

Bill, That's an interesting idea. I like it. Would allow me to use the front suspension on another build, If I find this one is too short for me. I would just add a solid front set-up and downsize the motor for my grandson.

T-Man, finally got around to taking my tires and rims up to get balanced this morning. Mechanic told me they were so far out, it wouldn't be worth my money to try. :mad2: First rim he tried was out by 4.5 oz. He then asked how fast I would be going? I told him current gearing calculates to 40...

Fowler, you are correct. That unit is called a reduction unit, used with small engines (under 7HP) pushing rear tires 16" and larger. Using different sprockets will vary the rate of reduction.

It certainly has been to date, but I must say I have certainly learned a tremendous amount about suspension in the past month. Front end is almost done, but with the heat wave we have coming for the next week, it just makes for longer wait times for things to cool down before welding again...

Thanks Theo, nice set up, but I suppose those differentials have gone the way of the dinosaurs, along with the Torque converters? :toetap05: Any idea what they were commonly used in: Golf Karts maybe?

Bill, tried it today, travels fine within the normal range, but without the upper shock brace in place yet, I do start to get binding around 75 degrees from horizontal. But I figure that's way outside the normal travel anyway. The bushings I used are Cat 1 tractor link 3 point hitch bushings...

The drive is the puzzle for sure. It looks like it's running a TC, then the drive from the jackshaft? Is that you're kart? Is the drive something one can purchase or is it fabricated from scratch?

Theo, it is a super looking kart, and if it's a Taipan frame, then it is "HIGHLY modified". :drool5: That thing is running a GSXR1000cc engine with a double A-Arm front suspension and some kind of trailing arm IRS. It reaches top speed of 150 KPH. I seriously doubt it is cheap or simple to...

As Bill said, yes it is, not only that I couldn't find any 14 guage here in Canada, this stuff is .10 (25% thicker). :worried2: I am soon going to have to hire a helper just the move it around. I figure the metal alone is over 100 lbs for the entire build before I start adding all the rest of...
