I'm also in Australia and would only own a Ford if it was given to me, and even then I'd probably sell it.
The problem with running no header is that cold air can contact the hot exhaust valve, causing it to become brittle and then snap. Very bad. Backpressure, or lack of it, cannot damage the valves.
