A plane got de winged and trailered out the other day. The guy brought an engine hoist to help load stuff.
When he got done the hoist didn't fit on his rig. He asked the AP manager if he could leave it. Sure.
Well I got wind of a free hoist. So I drug it home along with a crate of various house wire and a set of ½,¾,1" and 1¼ conduit benders that was left in the hanger.
Score.

Got a gold filled battery the other day for this chopper.
I think this is the best spot for it. There's some tabs but not where I need them.

Good thing I keep the tiny wheels. Use em till you can't.

This should hold the back side of the battery.

Started adding some strap to help level the floor.

Some thing smells funny.
Oh, crap, there goes my Ramones shirt.

20260214_191319.jpg

Found this bracket in the pile. Looks like it was made for exactly what I need it to be.

20260214_190700.jpg

Trim off the excess and a couple bolts.
Abracadabra.
A battery hold down.

20260214_200326.jpg

Finished up the welding.

Now for my next trick.
A wiring harness.

20260214_201529.jpg

It came with a fuse, switch, relay, and 2 outputs.

I need to shorten it quite a bit and make a spot for the switch.

Nothing to fancy.
Took a washer that just happened to have the right size hole. Imagine that.

Made a few notches

20260225_182329.jpg to fit this switch that came with the lighting wire harness.

20260225_182351.jpg

I think under the seat will make a good clean spot for it.

20260225_184507.jpg

Bad welding and a grinder 🙈

20260225_190011.jpg

Its not pushed in all the way but something like this.

Should be easy to keep the wires tucked out of sight.

Not to highjack this thread... but what happened to doing build-offs? Looks like there has not been one since 2022 or maybe earlier.

This project would be a top contender!

Admin went M.I.A. along with one or more moderators that mostly handled the build-offs, plus the last winner (who got the trophy) kept the trophy! Idk for sure though on the actual reasons. I’m new here.

WTR is doing a service here. He is creating an impetus to keep these Chinese weed eater-powered mini choppers out of the landfills. They’re basically disposable but here they can find new life under the tutelage of a DIY’er and the addition of a legit 4-stroker engine. It’s just beautiful, man…🥲

Thinking about paint.
Went over a few different ideas I just decided to just do a black under coat and get this rolling.
Ive been busy lately and days off have been terrible days to paint.
Too cold, too hot, wind blowing dirt everywhere.

20260328_202748.jpg

Now to let this dry for a day before the color shift stuff goes on.

No, im not a crappy painter.
Well yeah. Im not great.
Thats hammertone paint.

Im getting towards the end and dont want to ruin the reveal.

Here's some bondo on the tank to appease the masses.

20260419_191134.jpg

I started prepping for the tank sealer and found another big hole. Took it back to my dad to weld.

Got the tank sealer in.

A view from my borescope.

I also needed to address this.
The front axle fits like a hotdog in a hallway.
Parts on the way.

Got the tank sealer in.

They say you can roll the sealer around inside the tank and then dump the excess back into the can to be used again… and again… and

l like getting hammered when painting also.

You can get hammered each and every time a if you paint in a non-ventilated room, preferably closet size. Don’t forget to breathe deep.
