Sounds like a pretty sweet van! Ya mine turns pretty well with a live axle and a short wheel base, but at slow speeds and good traction turning the wheel acts like a brake. With your 650cc with 5 gears you should be able to overcome that issue. but with a 10' WB you turning radius will be huge with or without a diff. so I would stick with a live axle for your project it will help keep in a straight line on full power drags:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I got a bit more done yesterday. I mounted the new seat, finished welding up my stainless gas tank, bolted down the floor pans and sat and drank a few cold ones wile I figured out a few of the final details for the frame and drive train.

I still have a bunch of welding and a few braces to add but all in that's about it.

Thanks for checking it out!!
There is lots more to come on this one I would say it's only half done!
stay tuned for more.

that is a nice looking tank. I want to make a similar one out of copper. Where did yoiu get your vented filler cap?

Hey right on Thanks, copper would be nice!

I made the caps from an 1 1/4" hydraulic plug from Princess Auto (harbor freight Canadian style) drilled tapped and countersunk the center for a 1/8" NPT hose barb for the overflow tube and a nice O ring to seal up to the nipple in the tank.

Thanks!!
That is exactly what I hoped this project would do. Make people happy and bring a smile to their face even if they are laughing at how stupid the whole thing is or they just think its awesome! This project has inspired a few buds to get something of their own going so its a positive thing and will give me some competition. There is still lots more to come so thanks for checking it out.

I had a chance to get the VanKart out for a good old shake down run yesterday! every thing went pretty good. I need to set up the auto clutch so it will power shift between gears it will only let me shift when i'm off the gas. The steering is a bit of a struggle with those fat tires on the front but it stays in a straight line. So I guess its time to tear it down and finish welding and get some paint on it...

One thing for certain is this Vankart has a high COG (I knew it would from the start). After a bunch of taunting from my buddies and several attempts to bust out a 180* slide, I nearly nailed a few but this one was caught on video.

Current gearing(12 tooth on the engine and 45 on the axle) gets this Vankart moving at about 35mph acording to the GPS on my phone. although I have a 17t and can go as small as 28 on the axle. I have no idea what the math works out to but at 35mph its pretty fun. this one isn't really built for speed but it sure is fun to go fast.

Most of the welding is done on the frame. I hope to get it finished tonight.
I tore down mostly everything for cleaning sanding and painting.
I'm still not sure on the colours yet but I hope to have it in primer
This week end
