$500. thats a lot of money to pay back

what makes me feel better is, the hobart 125 costed $350, but the gas upgrade kit costs $150, so a total of $500. the hobart 140 comes with the gas kit, so its a better welder for the same price in that sense...

i worked my a$$ off today got most of the passenger side done! im planning on putting the door back on tomorrow

Blue have you bought the POR15 yet? A quart will go a long long way. You may need more than one quart for sure. But not to much more. Then you will be stuck with a 2nd quart of por15 that will dry up as soon as you open it. Well no shelf life anyway.

I would buy one quart. Then buy the por15 black 6 pack of cans.

This way you can use the quart. And if you have open a 2nd can you can just open one of the 6 cans.

So say you all are done with por15. You used the quart and two cans out of the 6 pack. Now you have 4 smaller cans for future projects that will not go to waste.

I have found the 6 pack to be the best ever as far as por15 stuff. It saves you big money over the long run. And you do not waste any. Also lets you not have to paint everything in one day for the paint will go bad.

If you already bought the two quarts. Then use plastic film when you put the lid back on. Then store the can upside down. This way when you open the can the thick skin is on the bottom and not the top. If you use no plastic you will never open that lid again no matter how hard you pry. POR15 will weld that can closed for good.

Just another por15 hint from the por15 freak.

MAke sure you beef up the seat mounts on that floor. Or make sure it's done solid. You do not want your sent ripping out in crash. Or run your set belt to the solid part of the floor.

i havent bought it yet. good idea on the small cans. so i have to paint the entire thing in one day? i thought i have resealed the sample can before, i dont remember.

and great idea on turning over the can!

cheapest POR15 i can find is off amazon, $33 a quart. ill see if they have the small cans too.


i tried to remove the seat belt from the rocker panel, (passenger side), with a star bit, ratchet, and 4 foot cheater bar. i managed to twist the star bit into a spiral! that bolt is never coming out. ill have to figure out how to weld around it

Also never paint from the can with a brush. POR15 derections will tell you this as well. Once the brush hits the can it brings in moisture. Never shake por15 always mix it by hand creating no bubbles.

I hear guys will poke two nail size holes in the lid on each side. Then drain the por 15 into cups. Then they rubber plug the whole. They say this gives it shelf life. I have not tried it though.

I find my local auto paint store carries por15 now. Check with them they price may surprise you. It did me.

Also shelf life will depend on if it's a rainy day or not. And how much moisture get into the paint.

If you can find it locally you can buy one quart at a time. I think one quart may be enough. But never did large jobs like that.

if you looked at the truck front on, it looks brand new. ill have to post a pic of that angle. the paint has held up amazingly well. theres a part of the bed that has no metal at all, only paint! and it doesnt look too bad.

at this point im not going to go into detail and fix the rust on the bottom of the door, or the cab corners. im going to paint it with POR15 to stop any more rust but it will stay the way it is. its a beat up truck, i have to take care of it, but i cant make it perfect and glossy. after all its a truck, its made to get dirty

when its back together it will at least be structurally safe and have a sturdy floor.

my welder is a Hobart 140. it came with the gas kit but i dont have any $$ for gas bottles yet so im flux core welding still.

Maybe build a flatbed? Might be easier/more fun to work with a little new steel rather than chase the tin worm away some more.
Granted, I did an entire new floor in the bed of my F100, but that truck has sentimental value, and I'd probably never do it again to a truck this new.

im going to replace that rusted out piece of the bed with a 2x4. just want to put the bed back on and be done with it.

i have a bed liner so the little holes dont really matter

2 quarts would be brushing.

i looked at the POR15 website and it is $50 per quart, so $100 total. amazon is the cheapest place i could find its $33 per quart and with shipping its around $70 i believe. thanks for the coupon though!

Did the same thing to my old truck before I sold it. Save yourself the headaches and just throw a flatbed on it.

with this truck i move my bikes, logs, brush, leaves, scrap metal, i need something with sides plus this truck will be driven pretty much as a daily driver not always with loads. and i want the bed to match the cab

i dont think its going to be a big deal to get it back on.
