As far as my opinion on the subject... I 100% agree that people don't take it seriously enough. However, there's no way to argue that people who are actively fighting laws because they want to be married aren't serious about it.

Perhaps it would be a wise move on the part of those who feel it's deviated from its roots (I assume this would primarily be the Christian faith?) to essentially re-create the concept of marriage to suit the vision they want it to suit, being specific to their own community, as there's no denying that the concept has changed by being adopted by the public at large and becoming primarily a government institution.

WAIT!!!!!!....Not just no....but HE77 NO!!!!! First...of course the people fighting to change the status quo are serious....and it doesn't mean the other side isn't....but sometimes NOT MOTIVATED TO ACTION.....because the status quo suits them....and they aren't always aware that that may be in jeopardy....whereas the instigators are......

No.....we are talking about a fundamental institution....that goes back to the days of the creation of the bible...and is mentioned in the same....and...NO!!!!!!....Im not gonna let it be passed off like it's some kind of city ordinance......

You don't have to tell me that gay couples can raise kids.....never said they couldn't....but conceiving one NATURALLY is a physical impossibility....at least for both parents at this time....AFAIK....

Again not being able to conceive a child naturally is nothing that stops heterosexuals from marrying, and I strongly believe you're okay with that.

But sharping this to a point, in fact homosexuals can conceive a child more or less naturally (a woman and a transgender formerly man now woman with frozen sperm...)
But let's not get technical here, since that's not what it's about.

There is NO reason to deny anyone old fashioned happiness through partnership.
No gay couple (men or women) take anything FROM you, they want nothing but acceptance..
partnership is legally unaccepted throughout the world.. except you have that stinky piece of paper that makes you a married couple.

In worst case... one partner had a serious accident, the other is not allowed to visit ICU because of the missing signature of a judge.

Simple things like that is what they're after..
and being socially accepted.

Especially gay men have troubles getting rid of the "darkroom" stigma, as if being gay means to have sex with dozens of unknown quantities basically all the time..

Something like being able to say "I'm married" means alot to many people, to you for example as I understand.
To me.. not so much to be honest.
but that doesn't lessen how much I love my girl, I just don't give a flying lobster about it being "official" or not.

Anyways.. that's just me... Pesonally, If I were gay, Nothing would change, I wouldn't even ask to get married, because I do not care and at least here in germany I would be allowed in the ICU no matter what ;)

Now, back to those who do want to get married,
to make it "right" to tell beasically all the world
"This is my partner, for now until death tears us apart"

If this is the concept you're talking about..
I'm totally with you, but do not talk about having/raising/conceiving children 'naturally'...
that's not it, not even closely...
It is about being "legally accepted (formerly allowed)" to have sex with each other
yes, that ordinary...

just check the bible... not had sex == not 'completely' married...
and in that time, you are -as a girl- married to a man the minute your father gave you that other man (well... you know what minute ;))
No priest involved, no judge, no-one but your dad.
(just as it is in some parts of the world until today)

So, no; the religious type of marriage isn't something you'd want either.. not in it's original form..
In that watered down version, where a woman actually can CHOOSE whom to marry,
where you are married when the paper is signed,
when the ring is on your finger and when you share a last name perhaps...

That watered down version is perfectly okay for todays society.. but I truely hope it'll soon be okay for gays as well.

It's just a "Tradition" to be against something you cannot wrap your head around.
"A black man is not allowed to marry a white woman and never should be.."
A sentence that especially in the southern USA wasn't unknown not too long ago, right?

That luckily changed over time with growing tolerance.
I do not tolerate intolerance (hehe; on purpose ;))
As long as I am not affected, I do not see any reason why I should deny other peoples lifestyle.

Just one thing I'd like you to think about for a minute...
You as a loving father, what would you want for your boy/girl in his/her adult life?
Having a good man/woman at his/her side? A nice home, a good life, being married having children, a dog and an oak tree...
and foremost happiness!
I'm pretty sure I'm about correct on this one.

Would that change if your kid is a homosexual?

And although I know the answer I'm afraid.. I hope not.
I hope you'd wish your kid still all the best, all that feels warm and comfy and makes him/her happy.

And if this kid has the same feelings about marriage as you do, because it shares the same values, would you still say it's WRONG?!

Really, do me a favour.. sit down, relax and think about this scenario for a while..
would you love your kid less because of his sexual preferences?
Do not regard "what would my neighbors say".. just how would YOU feel about your kid...

See.. you can't love your kid less..
you are -as far as I've learned so far-
a good man, a weird one I admit :D, but a good one.

And with that I'll leave this topic of conversation...

'sid

PS and don't say "this cannot happen to me..." that's what other people said before and many of them have been wrong ;)

Problem is, it doesn't exist today as it once has. As soon as the concept became officiated and/or regulated by the government, it became a product of said government, and is therefore (at least in America) regulated by and available to its citizens and not any particular group.

This is an example of a severe lapse in separation of church and state. Had the concept of marriage stayed within the church, the church would have full control and interpretation over the concept of marriage, and rightfully so as it would not afford any tangible advantages, status, or cost outside of the religion.

Regardless, the trending issue seems to be that what the government calls marriage is becoming different from what the church calls marriage, and that's very unlikely to change. But if they're two different concepts, why are we still using the same word for it? It's the concept that has significance, not the word.

If the word 'love' gets morphed to 'kill', are you gonna go 'kill' they neighbor? Heck no! You re-translate the message so that those who read it gain an understanding of your ideals. The generally accepted definition of marriage is changing, and it seems people are more worried about saving "their" word rather than their concept, ideals, or way of life.

Man the way you all are jumping on the man is wrong. Poorboy should be allowed to have his views weather they coincide with the rest of the world or not. It is his thread after all. He11 I know some gay people who are against gay marriage but instead they want a civil union. Me, I say let em get married so they can be miserable-errr- happy as the rest of us.

HEY!!!!!! MY KID IS NOT GAY!!!!! She may have married one tho.....:lolgoku:

She's a tattooed pshyco gal....don't know where she could have possibly got that deviant behavior from?

And Denny....nobody is picking on anyone...we are merely discussing an issue....and stating each other's opinions.....and this is how exposing ignorance and changing the status quo comes about......if it's not discussed....or thought about....then the possibility of one changing their opinion does not exsist...

So.....possibly many people will change their minds by reading these posts....

(And realize how wrong Alex really is....hee...hee...haa...haa...haa!!!!):lolgoku:

Those are too cool!!!! And gorgeous! !!....I once caught a little toad that was smaller than a nickle....since I have ponds....and had seen hundreds of tiny babies each year....but noticed almost none in that size range emerging in the spring....decided to try and overwinter him.....he grew very well ....and he was funny....he would stay buried up under the substrate all week....then....Friday night...he would pop out....waiting.....

We would go buy crickets on Saturday to feed him....IDK how he knew...but he had the timing down pat.....

Unfortunately.....that didn't have a happy ending....in my ignorance....I did not provide the proper light....and he died from redleg.....:furious2:

But yeah....reptiles rule!!! Funny you should bring up pets though....that monster in the background isn't a pet.....I'm his hostage! !!! Help.....somebody? ???:surrender::lolgoku:

that's exactly how we found these guys, hundreds of tiny babies and no mature ones, we do feed them crickets but had to start with flightless fruit flies and they do bury themselves, bigger ones will eat smaller ones so we have to keep them segregated, I have an AZ native friend who gives me a hard time for "population control" but it's not like we're reintroducing these guys to the wild

I told my wife about your possum attempts and her eyes lit up lol (how dare she call ME a hillbilly)

Am I blessed or cursed?

I have a gourmet palate....or...at least used to.....I used to eat everything...and was able to tolerate and enjoy some very hot peppers.....

Not anymore.....

My tolerance for hot stuff is down to kiddie level....and I WAS working on chomping down ghost peppers...

So.... Cancer changed all that....and....not only did it take away my ability to enjoy spicy foods....but...I have lost all my teeth....so I'm pretty much relegated to eating soft food as well. ....so....the UP SIDE?.......I'm a gourmet...palate....and chef...(.not classically trained....or certified....but..yeah.. ),,,
:
So...while it may be hard to fathom...here's my reality... imagine yourself in a grocery store.....now....imagine that in that whole store.....there's only about one or two aisles of stuff you can eat......

So....being a master chef helps....as at least the limited stuff I CAN eat is really good. ....so. in that respect... Im blessed....

I kinda vaccillated a bit on whether to post this here or on the "Shop critters " thread... but.....since this is my ...rant 'n' roam thread.. (and .....feel free to join in anytime folks.......this isn't just about me...it's meant to be a thread where we can post ANYTHING. off-topic without having to start a thread)......

Sooooo.....this is about Sammy.....the feral cat that adopted me....and a little about the dynamics of our relationship....and maybe a little insight for someone else......

I have dealt a lot with wild animals.... and .....wilder animals....like. Sammy......

Now.....Sammy was a cat that was dumped....he was fixed...he was also abused.....(not that he didn't ask for it)....but the PO just was in over his/her head.......

When I first got Sammy.....he was constantly attacking me and drawing blood.....I also noticed he was particularly touchy about being kicked....(apparently...the PO had abused him that way...

Soooo....I tried for the longest time to kill him with kindness.....then one night....I was sleeping....and moved my hand under my pillow....Sammy caught it with a claw....and.about ripped it to the bone....

I was pissed....I got up...grabbed a SHOE....and chashed that little...(funny...for a cat....Sammy...ain't little)...bassard down....

He was scared to death....and ...now...facing his old enemy in a brand new fashion...got a size 12 tennis shoe in his face from long range.....

Things changed a lot after that night...Sammy realized I was being nice because I wanted to...not had to.....and that he wasn't the guy in charge.....

Well.....not really .....see...Sammy is one of those critters that will always try to be in charge....and will never accept second place....sooooo....it's always been a balance of power.....:lolgoku:

Sooooo......fast forward....Sammy's two new aggravating habits:

#1: He has to be on the recliner....(it's his!!!! ....and if you don't like it....deal with it...puny human!!!!!)....

#2: (This is new as well).....For reasons I don't want to go into right now....my bed is right by my front door.....so....it's a pretty common thing for me to let Sammy in.....and FOLLOW. him....as he walks SO antagonizing slow to his food bowl to be fed....(he HAS to be in charge) .....

So....on a few occasions....I let him in late at night....and took a quick right turn into the bed....he looked at me like...WTF?????....So I very firmly told him:"Get your own d###m food!!!)

A couple of aggravated tail twitches later....he did....

So....a few nights ago....I let him in....and hit the bed.....he looked towards the kitchen where his food bowl is....and then jumped up on the bed with me.....it was cold....so I thought maybe he wanted to snuggle.......

Oh.... NO!!!! The little turd bit me on the elbow and took off for the kitchen.....get the hint you lowly human?????

He did this again the other night.....hmmmmm.....time to get out another tennis shoe......:lolgoku:

Edit: This is Sammy. "settling" ....he really wants the whole recliner....but as long as he can "look down on me".....he'll settle for that.....

Ok....So I found this 20 gallon Shop Vac next to a dumpster.....

Now....I've already got two shop vacs....and if you leave them out in the weather....there is a bearing in the top that can "get fussy" as it tries to rust up....and the thing will screech and almost not run...but...you can remove clean ,grease, and reassemble and it's like a new shop vac....

So....I figured that was probably the problem...and just left it sitting in the driveway out in the rain and weather for the last couple of weeks....because the power chord was cut off.....

I did a quick splice this afternoon....and hit the switch.....PURRS LIKE A KITTEN! !!! Go figure! !!!! ????????But....:wai:
