You don't have to tell me that gay couples can raise kids.....never said they couldn't....but conceiving one NATURALLY is a physical impossibility....at least for both parents at this time....AFAIK....
Again not being able to conceive a child naturally is nothing that stops heterosexuals from marrying, and I strongly believe you're okay with that.
But sharping this to a point, in fact homosexuals can conceive a child more or less naturally (a woman and a transgender formerly man now woman with frozen sperm...)
But let's not get technical here, since that's not what it's about.
There is NO reason to deny anyone old fashioned happiness through partnership.
No gay couple (men or women) take anything FROM you, they want nothing but acceptance..
partnership is legally unaccepted throughout the world.. except you have that stinky piece of paper that makes you a married couple.
In worst case... one partner had a serious accident, the other is not allowed to visit ICU because of the missing signature of a judge.
Simple things like that is what they're after..
and being socially accepted.
Especially gay men have troubles getting rid of the "darkroom" stigma, as if being gay means to have sex with dozens of unknown quantities basically all the time..
Something like being able to say "I'm married" means alot to many people, to you for example as I understand.
To me.. not so much to be honest.
but that doesn't lessen how much I love my girl, I just don't give a flying lobster about it being "official" or not.
Anyways.. that's just me... Pesonally, If I were gay, Nothing would change, I wouldn't even ask to get married, because I do not care and at least here in germany I would be allowed in the ICU no matter what
Now, back to those who do want to get married,
to make it "right" to tell beasically all the world
"This is my partner, for now until death tears us apart"
If this is the concept you're talking about..

I'm totally with you, but do not talk about having/raising/conceiving children 'naturally'...
that's not it, not even closely...
It is about being "legally accepted (formerly allowed)" to have sex with each other

yes, that ordinary...
just check the bible... not had sex == not 'completely' married...
and in that time, you are -as a girl- married to a man the minute your father gave you that other man (well... you know what minute

)
No priest involved, no judge, no-one but your dad.
(just as it is in some parts of the world until today)
So, no; the religious type of marriage isn't something you'd want either.. not in it's original form..
In that watered down version, where a woman actually can CHOOSE whom to marry,
where you are married when the paper is signed,
when the ring is on your finger and when you share a last name perhaps...
That watered down version is perfectly okay for todays society.. but I truely hope it'll soon be okay for gays as well.
It's just a "Tradition" to be against something you cannot wrap your head around.
"A black man is not allowed to marry a white woman and never should be.."
A sentence that especially in the southern USA wasn't unknown not too long ago, right?
That luckily changed over time with growing tolerance.
I do not tolerate intolerance (hehe; on purpose

)
As long as I am not affected, I do not see any reason why I should deny other peoples lifestyle.
Just one thing I'd like you to think about for a minute...
You as a loving father, what would you want for your boy/girl in his/her adult life?
Having a good man/woman at his/her side? A nice home, a good life, being married having children, a dog and an oak tree...
and foremost happiness!
I'm pretty sure I'm about correct on this one.
Would that change if your kid is a homosexual?
And although I know the answer I'm afraid.. I hope not.
I hope you'd wish your kid still all the best, all that feels warm and comfy and makes him/her happy.
And if this kid has the same feelings about marriage as you do, because it shares the same values, would you still say it's WRONG?!
Really, do me a favour.. sit down, relax and think about this scenario for a while..
would you love your kid less because of his sexual preferences?
Do not regard "what would my neighbors say".. just how would YOU feel about your kid...
See.. you can't love your kid less..
you are -as far as I've learned so far-
a good man, a
weird one I admit

, but a good one.
And with that I'll leave this topic of conversation...
'sid
PS and don't say "this cannot happen to me..." that's what other people said before and many of them have been wrong
