'boys night ought
Well....this is kind ov an interesting story....that will never happen again...but was probably the best night of my life without multiple females involved.
Soooo....I'm probably around 12 years old....and my best friend in the whole world suggests we go down to the River. He knows how to get there by bus. I'm white, he's Hispanic. Somehow, our moms agree and we take off....As far as I can remember, we had less than $5 between the two of us....
We hit the River in late afternoon....Fiesta was in full bloom....and everything was bought by coupons....apparently, the old folks were enjoying themselves as we found dropped coupons everywhere.....( this was on the San Antonio Riverwalk.....and tourists come from all over).....
Soooo....we're going along like little kids on an Easter egg hunt...and before long, we have more coupons than we can spend.....
Then we come across a Mexican wedding reception that was over....I look over and see a Coke stand that's empty....I get behind it....and everything is working.....so....I go into business! I'm barking as folks go by: Coke, Dr.Pepper, Sprite, or suicides....twenty five cents a cup! Before long I've made quite a bit of money.
You know though, a 12 year old has a short attention span....so it was time for some fun......We noticed a few people watching us....(so after a quick conference) ....we staged a business related conflict....and got into a knock-down go for broke brawl....we were punching each other and knocking the other one over tables...(basically...your average old west barroom brawl) ....someone came and broke it up and we just laughed and ran away.....(we made it look REAL good)
We went home with over $10 a piece in our pockets, had all we could eat and drink, and had the night of our lives for less than free.
Never happen again.....I mean....we went downtown by ourselves ....until after dark....( see...maybe moms were smarter back then..."If you love something, let it go....if it doesn't come back, .....more for the smarter kids!"
BTW: I highly recommend a San Antonio trip if you're anywhere close. The San Antonio river experience is like Bourbon Street....really no place else like either of them.
Also....now there's Sea World down there....I don't care who you are: when Shamu comes out, you will get goosebumps and your neckhairs will stand on end....And it's very entertaining after that....
There's of course a lot of other entertaining things to do....and if your VERY lucky ....you can feed and pet dolphins, but THEY choose who they let do that.....
But....there's also a TON of other stuff in the nearby area, like glass bottom boats, caverns, and the Poboy birthplace museum!
Oh yeah: Almost forgot: HoneyCreek State Park...(It's actually in my Grandfather's ranches back forty back fence)..
Oh.....yeah, one last chest thumping....watched a Jaques Pepin cooking show, ...and saw it was sponsored by my ancestral family's business....(well,....one of them....) and the wine glass business is still the best in the world in quality!
