Make life easy on yourself, pretend you're wearing a dress......................ohh quit your laughing.....................
Mount struts on each side that swing out of the way on a hinge of some sort, maybe like a car door. Have a bail pin attached that you stab in when closed back up to make a good solid support structure (same as I'm doing with my removeable roll cage). No aggravating yoga exercise moves to get in and out, and only the dog sees up your dress as you do.

Went thru the scrap pipe bin (yea, I have a scrap pipe bin) :innocent:
...& found, a couple of closely matchin' pieces, that may work for them "side braces"

Now, I gotta take most of this front suspension apart again (thanks Bansil :mad2:)
...ta get it outta the way
...so, I can grind some of this primer off again (thanks, Bansil :furious2:)
...& then, see about gettin' 'em (the side braces) welded on ;)

Maybe, something like this :2guns:

So, why (4) separate lights just for a brake light?

Well, (I'm glad you asked)
...first of all, it'll look super kool

Probably not as kool as the "real thing"
...but, were gettin' creative here :cheers2:

Also, (probably more important) is that this kart will have a 48VDC system
...& as such, most everything is (or needs to be capable of handling) the full "pack voltage" ;)

Then, there's the fact that there are not a lot of 48VDC lighting options :furious2:

* An easy (& low cost) solution, I've found, is to use standard 12VDC stuff

Ya just gotta connect (4) of 'em, "in series"
...then, their capable of handling 48V :2guns:

I drew up a quick diagram showing (4) 12V batteries connected "in series" to equal ~48VDC
...& (4) 12V lights, again, connected "in series"
...& I also, added a switch to complete the circuit (Oops where is the fuse?) (Damn it Jim, I'm just a...) :mad2:

How'd ya make that tail light?

Well, (I'm glad you asked)

It's made outta a piece of plastic (~1/8" thick) harvested from the back of an of an old TV, :giggle:

I just did some measurin'
...& markin'
...& drillin'
...then, some whittlin'
...& some smoothin'

Then, comes the curvin'

* I did a "test piece" first by, heating 'er up (with a heat gun) ta curve 'er a bit
...then, did the other side ta match :2guns:

Took 'er over ta the Slingshot ta see how she looked ;)

Yup, I think that'll do

So, I went ahead & "curved" the "prepped piece" :sifone:

What ya'all think? :cheers2:

Is that plate available? or are you making a faux one?

I guess I don't remember if you are registering it
This kart is NOT gonna be anywhere close to being "street legal" 😱

The plate is/was just to show/represent, where a license plate would go

I just thought a DIYGK license plate would look kool :sifone:

Probably gonna make something up, ta go there ;)
...DIYGK
...or Slingshot
...or something? :cheers2:

...yea, I think Rube fits ya pretty well
If that's Rube Goldberg, that's a good fit................. So, no more gentlemanly humor about being ladylike in a dress............
From my own broke down point of view: Trying to spaghetti a leg around a brace, get down near to the ground, fish the leg into a narrow kart space, and try to pull the other leg in behind it could give me a violent hip cramp that'd make me holler language that would melt your ears.
Hence the suggestion of a hinged door-like access that could easily be bail-pinned solid once inside the kart. The only way a lady could get in and be ladylike about it with a dress on. Now you get it?
The famous Mercedes SL300 Gullwing wasn't originally started out in style design with the hinges in the middle like that. It was a functional concession made early on in the design to keep it from being too difficult to get in and out of the car, and came out pretty cool for a concession to function. Same idea about a "door" on your Slingshot, but maybe you're a lot more flexible than my broke down old self.

What is the top speed you are looking to achieve with this beauty
Well, using the "Ball Park Equation" ;)

How fast do you want to go? | DIY Go Karts

Motor Speed/Gear Ratio=Axle Speed x Tire Circumference = Inches per Minute traveled/Foot(12) = Feet per Minute traveled x Hour(60) = Feet per Hour traveled x MPH Multiplier(.000189) = Miles Per Hour

Specs:
48V 1,000W motor can/should generate ~3,000RPM's (loaded)
...& the Slingshot is running a 6:1 gear ratio (10t drive sprocket on the motor & a 60t driven sprocket on the axle)
...& the rear tire is a 15 x 6.00 x 6 (~45" circumference)

So,
3,000 (motor RPM's) / 6 (gear ratio) =500 (axle speed)
500 (axle speed) x 45 (tire circumference) = 22,500 (inches per minute traveled)
22,500 (inches per minute traveled) / 12 (foot) = 1,875 (feet per minute traveled)
1,875 (feet per minute traveled) x 60 (hour) = 112,500 (feet per hour traveled)
112,500 (feet per hour traveled) x .000189 (MPH multiplier) = 21.26 MPH

Only having (3) wheels, should reduce the rolling resistance a bit more, than an actual kart
...but, yea, I'd say shell easily do somewhere in the low 20's :sifone:

Plenty fast enough to have some fun, whilest only running, ~4" off of the ground :auto:

I got the brake system designed, made up & installed

The rear section is separate, as to be part of the "combo power unit" ;)
...& connected with a pivot (in line with the rear suspension pivot)

I incorporated a couple of "guides"
...to help keep everything slidin' "in line", properly :cheers2:
...& even added a brake light switch "to the mix" :sifone:

I did a quick demo video to show the brake system

:unsure:Do you sleep at all :ROFLMAO:

2 braces like this but moar rounded ;)
Oh, yea,
I got the "2 braces" notched & installed

Cleaned 'er all-up (again)
...& then, sealed 'er all-up (again) :cheers2:

They leave quite a bit of room for pedal access
...their, not in the way "too much"
...& I think I got 'em pretty even ;)SAM_2797.JPG

You do some really clean copes. What kind of guide are you using for the hole saws, and what do you think of this drill holder type cheap thing? Looks to me like a piece of pipe laid in the V-angled base could be clamped down against any movement, and the saw would be close enough to an accurate angle to get gokart variety copes in pipes done okay...............
