HOLY BBs!! I just got and tried a 9.6V Valken battery in my rifle, and I've awoken the beast!! I kid you not, it seems that ROF has been increased to 150% of what it was before!! Velocity is noticeably higher, too. I was literally startled when I tried full auto!

For reference, I was running an 8.4V battery before. I thought that since it's only a modest voltage increase that I'd only see marginal gains, but that is AWESOME!

I had a few paint chips in my truck door... ofcourse I wanted to see about fixing them. Didnt realize how big of a hole I just dug myself into.

Guess Im leaning some auto body now...

Any pointers? Aside from getting a new door that is.

Bondo shouldn't be used more than a 1/4" thick. Although I've done 1/2" myself and it is just fine. For the smaller holes, weld them closed, grind it down, and use Bondo. Just be sure all surafces are smooth and clean before applying Bondo, primer, or paint.

I think its probably a good 1/8 thick at the thickest. Its filling about a 6-8in dent. Try to pop it out some maybe?

I might look into putting a lower skin on it, and cutting out and patching the spot half way up on the front edge.

That would make this a good door, aside from the speaker holes some fiend hacked in it.

Just sharing my 1-day project, This is something I have wanted to build for some time, and finally did it.
My brother is restoring a 1940 ford 9n, and it was converted to an alternator.
He is going to revert it to the original 6v generator, so I got the alternator for free.

I also have more honda gcv160-90 motors than I know what to do with, so why not. :p Burned the pulley right on the crank, bic lighter anyway, she'll be right.

Total cost about $20. Mint.

That's cool.. I have been wanting to do on of those for a while now...
What ratio do you need to use for the alt?

Long as you keep the alternator rpm below 18,000 RPM, should be fine. 4" pulley should allow the alternator to spin fast enough with the engine at or just above idle to charge a battery.

Thanks , its only a 63 amp alternator, so it does not tax the motor a lot. I have the governor down about 2700rpm, and the engine pulley is about 5in diameter, the alternator pulley is about 3 in.

Like kartorbust said, 4in would be just fine.

Works something like this (In 4k!) , the old unit was not having it, so I turned it in at the parts store with $39 and got a brand newish reman unit, and its working great.

After I bolted on the alternator, I realized its turning the wrong way, good thing it's not a generator :p

I like it...I wonder what max inverter wattage it could handle???

So what does the trailer light do??

Well it is only around 850 watts DC output, so not very big, at least continuous. If you used something like a 100amp unit, you would have 1400w to play with.

1000w inverter , some throttle control, and you have a trashy honda eu2200 inverter generator, than can idle down when not under full load :p

The light excites the alternator, and acts as the charge/warning light.

Most old cars had a generator light in the dash, would not go out until the alternator started charging, Same deal.

Interesting.....Ive never heard of such a thing on the alt light before???
I thought that the power would just need to be applied to the brushes, and then the higher cables from the output to the batt and ground... Ie all what you have but without the light??(not doubting I just never heard of such a thing..)

Yeah, I think that started going out of style in the 80's,
my 64 ford has the same light, as did my 84 vw golf.
When gauges were more expensive .

Its just a simple feedback to let you know it is charging,
as the cart has no voltmeter. Red light= something went wrong, simple.

The bulb is not necessary , you can omit it and just excite the alternator with 12v+ directly, switched, and run a normal voltmeter or none at all.

Just purchased some plans in the last couple hours. Hope to get them tomorrow afternoon. Cannot wait to get started on it, been a longtime awaiting to get some sort of go kart/buggy project started. Looks like 2021 will be the year I start out getting it built.

Been looking at the details of the plans I purchased, very well detailed for the most part. I bought the Badland Buggy ST2-NG plans because it's pretty much exactly what I want for a single seater and can pretty much accommodate the gearbox and engine setup I'm 99% I'm going with. What I'm not a huge fan of, is they do not give any recommendations for the U-joints for it, just says 1" bore u-joints. I have my doubts with the strength of 1" keyed shaft. However, they rate the ST2 Next Gen for as small as a 400cc up to a 1000cc 180hp beast. Kind of irritating that they don't give any options to go with on that. Considering the plans were first made in 2003, with this being a revision of 2005. They do make recommendations for steering wheel size and what not. Recommended front end is built off the 1250lb trailer stub axles and a 5x4.5 hub, so that keeps it easy to get parts.
