Spray some good penetrating all around the shaft and let is sit. Its probably corrosion holding it on.

WD40 is NOT a penetrating oil, it's a water dispersant! Yes, it has a million uses but, penetrating & breaking down rust is NOT one of them, you need something like PB Blaster

The sanding begins got a random orbit sander 5 inch from HFi got 100 grit 120 grit and 220 grit that is all they had they did not have any 500 or 1000 grit

we have 500, 600, 800 and 1200 at nearly any hardwarestore
(okay 1200 is indeed hard to find sometimes at a hardware store)
highest I've ever seen was 5000 and 7000 (basically a polishing cloth
)carpainters use fine grit alot, so if you want some fine grit.. ask them.

Yes....they make 2000 grit sandpaper all friggin day long!!!!!!!!!!!! And they make all kinds of wet or dry grit sandpaper......do us all a favor....Cameron....since they don't make that fine a grit sandpaper for a 5" orbital.....just use the finest grit you can get....and PLENTY of water.....

Go to any auto supply....they will have it at a price....find an automotive paint store and the selection and prices will be better.....
And pay more attention to how your posts read in the future....if you DON'T say you are looking for sheet paper in the same sentence you mention an orbital.....the only logical conclusion is you are looking for 5" orbital sandpaper and 240 is about the finest I've seen.....

I admit, the 5000 and 7000 grit are not available for orbital sanders
(or at least, not that I know) and thus a bit 'off topic'
but that's it.

Because the body is od shaped i need to use sand paper by hand to get to everything
If your hardware store doesn't sell sheets in above 500, then go find another store.
It's common for stone, metal, acrylic and lacquer, so I'm sure you'll find it
The larger areas turn out more easily (and evenly) if you get one on your orbital though.

REAL car painters don't use orbital sanders for anything but rough work....and whatever you can get in a German hardware store doesn't help in California....and you probably can't find a hardware store in America with that fine a grit on the shelves.....
And short of calling you a liar....I find it hard to believe they do in Germany....the fact it is manufactured and available online is one thing....widely available locally is quite another....
I own a Bosch 5" sander.....and I can't even find a replacement hook and loop pad for it.....
And we use Fein tools at work....but you can't find either sandpaper or replacement pads anywhere but one or two woodworking stores.....
Naw.....I'll stick by my post.....no regrets....no retractions....it's correct for the real world I live in.....

Ok, my 2 cents... since I was the one who put Cameron onto the orbital in the first place:
The finest discs I have found locally is 320; for anything finer I have to buy online (which I finally found after much searching), up to 2000, nothing finer available anywhere in Australia...
Same goes for freecut sheets, the finest I've ever seen is 2000 & I've worked in many paint/panel shops
