Gonna pull the Sachs, (with it's firmly cemented/chemically bonded flywheel) off and start bolting the Polaris/Fuji 300cc motor on. Same basic size, twin slide carbs, and a real screamer compared to the Sachs.
.....THEN I'll hit 70mph?

It's been torqued down under tension for almost 2 months.... it wins, until I find a stick of dynamite.
Plus... look how cute and adorable that Polaris is....! Can I keep it? Huh, Mom? Can I?

Well. if I spend $50 on a puller, I gambling that it MIGHT work; the Polaris motor is definitely superior (rated at 30hp) and the clutch matches the motor. I'm not trashing the Sachs... it could very well end up on the back of the TreeFrog or something.
To be honest, with the priorities rapidly changing around here at my house, you guys are all gonna be MY age by the time some of this stuff finally gets dealt with.

You wont believe the power difference from the Polaris, the twin carbs add at least 5-10 HP. Polaris made a better engine anyway, that's why they are still in business.

Agreed. Ed's fire-breathing Polaris 440 got me started on this whole SnoMo thing.... What's funny was, I had in mind either a Polaris or an old single (easier packaging/less desirable-therefore cheaper) when I started the search! (Now I have BOTH!)
The Sachs fell into my lap and I "settled" for it, designing the rest of the trike around it. (To the Sach's credit, I was climbing to 60 mph with more to spare before things started happening.) Had I waited a couple of months, the Polaris would've been the motor. As it sits, I'm going to start cleaning the carbs, replacing hoses and wires, and get IT ready for the project. The bores look beautiful and it's got spark.
Good thing this wasn't a 440... that'd be extremely stupid on something like this.

To get it to work, I'll need to modify the mount, (do-able), the muffler/pipe, and the throttle cables. I even have a Polaris TX tachometer I can wire up!

Okay... this is why the Sachs is being put on hold for a while....

...if you look closely, you'll see the puller bending, the 1/4" steel bending... etc... and still no luck. It's a;ready been pulled and put in the shed (wheel-puller under tension, of course!)

Here is the Mock-Ups of the Polaris motor in place.....

So far so good...... Muffler is going to need to move, but that's it.

No- We're hopefully getting ready to move soon, and so Ed's Black Terror of Death-mobile has to be finished first. ( He wouldn't be too happy if I left it in it's present state!)

Yeah- pending the sale of our business here, (Phoenix) and me getting hired up in Colorado's D.O.C.. Of course, all the "projects" will make their way up there, and it'll start all over again, this time, with a real garage.
My wife's bike is finished- so that leaves Ed's creation, and then I'm free to try to get this going again.

Okay- time for a WAY delayed update. The Sachs?.... still stuck with the flywheel on. The whole project has been sitting in the garage, waiting for me to get a little time/$$ to attack it. The crappy economy affects more than just the Wall Street Crowd... my project is still sitting!

I gotta say, I don't even know what an impact gun is. (Ooops) No.... I did try a slide hammer, and I've heard horror stories of getting over-zealous with "impact-based methods" on the cranks. bearings, cases, etc...of sno-mo engines. It even stumped the small engine shop I took it to. I REALLY didn't want to tear it all apart and re-engineer it for the Polaris motor, but it appears that's the next path to take. I guess I better update my profile, too. I'm now in The Big Square as opposed to the Nations Catbox... Time flies!
