I wasnt planning on it, then i saw someone flip a mower, so i figured it couldnt hurt.

Hopefully tomorrow i'll sand down the hood and get the hood scoop on.

I like the way they look lowered, and i guess where i'll be clearance isnt a big issue. For the lowering, i was planning on smaller tires, i got some 14 or 12's off some other mowers, so thats bringing it down 4-6". I really dont feel like making a jackshaft, this was supposed to be a cheap build, but i doubt it will be that cheap...i'll try to stay under 50, right now im probably under $10 for the gear oil, and flux core wire i've already used, so its not a hard goal.

Today i cut out the hood scoop, and bent it to shape, looks good but i think it could be a bit longer, i may try that. All the angles were bent with my ghetto press brake haha, two pieces of flat stock with the sheet in between, clamped to the table. I also got two new additions to the family, a $10 bench grinder, which has no power (you have to turn it by hand to get it started, then it gets up to speed, but has no power), and a $5 air powered paint gun. My air compressor also had something fail in it, i was running the air sander to get the hood ready for paint, when it made a leaking sound, i unplugged it, and it wasnt leaking so i think its something with the piston. I got the air compressor for free, because i was told it had piston problems, but it worked fine up until now.

Hoodscoop sitting on the hood, i think i would like it to be longer, but i really dont feel like re-doing it. Its made out of a washing machine hood, probably about 16 or 18 gauge steel.

Front view, i also have the hood all sanded down for paint, gonna be black with red racing stripes.

EDIT: Well i actually check, and i have another area i can cut a hood scoop 10x15 the one right now is about 10x10 or 10x11. Think i should go longer or leave as is?

If you go 10x15 and make a few cuts, can you set up the top of the scoop to be perpendicular to the hood? Like this?

Wouldn't do more for airflow, but as far as aesthetics, it'd look pretty tight.

I am going to have to get myself a good set of drill bits soon, but i think i'll go to sears because i have this membership thing that gets me really cheap tools there.

If you can get a price break on 'em, I HIGHLY recommend steering away from the black oxide HSS bits for larger bores. That, or gear down your press a ton for a very slow cut. For those larger bores, I've had to oil bathe each bore I've done with 'em, and even then, they get hot and lose an edge quickly. I've had the best luck with the gold oxide pilot points like these from Dewalt.

Very little walk in these bits. I've entirely abandoned the split points in smaller sizes because they walk, even in my press. Well worth a set.

Yea im goin for looks, this engine runs cool as is. I didnt think i liked your idea, but i drew it up, and i like it. May be a bit hard to make, but i'll give it a go. Heres the options i can think of, I'm liking 2 or 3, what about you?

Either way, you should make the scoop shorter, more low profile.

Ok a lil update while i take a lunch break.
First i figured out why the air compressor isnt working, the little hose going to the pressure shutoff censor exploded. I also figured out why the grinder is so weak, its a 250v 20a grinder? kind of confusing because it has a standard house plug...

I also made the new hood scoop, i didnt have enough metal to make a 1 piece one (which would be much better) so i had to just make an extension for the one i made yesterday, with some epoxy and a little more grinding it should be fine.

Right now this thing is pretty much just a ricer mower
