I guess I should have clarified: this is a 1994 F150 4x4 with a 4.9 L straight six gasoline engine.

Looking online...the speed sensor recall is because it can short circuit and cause fire. Big deal...another day or two and Poboy can short circuit and the dealership can catch fire.

I had a 1980 F150 and naturally the doors were a little worn...so I tweaked the adjustments so you simply had to gently close the doors to get them shut. If you slammed them...it would knock the adjustment out...anyway...I always tried to warn people first...but sometimes even when I did...they would slam the passenger door. I would say:"Don't slam my door...this isn't a Chebby!"

So...researching recalls (11)....one of them is airbag deployment. Now GM has a ton of them for non-deployment....and my truck does ,too!!!....BUT!!!....My truck has another one: slamming the passenger door can cause the airbag to DEPLOY!!!!

I swear....you can't make this stuff up. (Maybe I should keep my head out of the window while loading and unloading passengers!!!!

After probably the most grueling two weeks of my life, I'm glad to say I'M HOME!

After everything was said & done regarding mum, then I had to sort all my stuff. After subtracting around a metric ton of scrap metal & around 2 cubic metres* of rubbish, my brother & I filled my trailer (around 3.5 cubic metres) & loaded further ~20 cubic metres into a 20' shipping container which will arrive on Monday...

*1 cubic metre = 35 cubic feet

See and I only buy and like Ford. While GM's LS engines make sense to me and Ford engines are nearly Chinese to me...I still like and buy Ford. Yeah they are hard press when it comes to using Motorcraft parts only and what not, but I like Ford.

Hope I can find a Ranger and then either a V2203 Kubota or Caterpillar 3.4L and swap it in for better mpg. A few guys around have swapped in the Kubota V2203 DI and IDI into rangers and S10, as well as a few Jeeps and got 25-40mpg. Not too shabby I think since the stock gas engines get 15-20mpg on a good day.

It's too bad though. The Kubota was used in refer trailers since 2006 and a few years ago had to be pulled out because they only met EPA Tier III emissions. They became pretty popular fast, nearly as fast as the Cummins 4BT, so they are becoming hard to get for a good price.

I hate electronic diesels. They run too tight of tolerances for the injectors and cost a fortune to rebuild (only a couple, maybe 3 companies in the US) rebuild high pressure common rail diesel injectors, because even the smallest burr on the tip, can cause premature failure, costing thousands.

I'd look at a 1.9l VW tdi swap. There is a guy with a tdi swap that's looking into making kits for oem 2.3 manual trucks with the m5od transmission. Never heard of the 3.4 cat but if they take after the big cats I'd stay away. I've seen a few Kubota swaps but the best one so far is the tdi.

I've seen a few jeep wranglers with a cummins 4bt engine swap that were making 500hp and loads of torque.

If you want a high mpg diesel truck then a TDI would be great. There are TDI cars getting 50mpg or more.

Only gripe about the VW TDI is a 100k mile timing belt change, other wise I'd be all over it. There's a guy 20 miles from me that did one in a Ford Ranger. May look at a Mercedes OM617 5 cylinder turbo IDI.

4BTs are way too expensive. Guy on eBay has a monopoly on those and been up charging a lot for them.

Those Cats are built by Perkins. Caterpillar bought Perkins a few years back and Perkins is known for reliability. The 3.4L is in the Cat 247B track skid steer.

Not just mpg. He lives in Minnesota too. Getting up to 38mpg and 25 to 30 towing is what I want down the road.

I agree Perkins are good engines. Cat engines are good if you like to rebuild them twice as often as any other and get half the mileage. They make good power, but I prefer Cummins, Detroit engines.

CAT really hadn't built a decent on road diesel.The 3208, 3116, and 3126/C7 are not known for reliability from Cat. The 3126/C7, 3116 hold something like 30qts of oil and weigh about 1200-1500lbs. So those would need to be in the Super Duty trucks or the F650/750 (which the C7 was an option).

Yep that TDI Ranger was the one I was talking about. There's a way to make the TDI easier to install, by taking the electronic fuel injection pump and putting in a Bosch Rotary VE pump. Same one used on the 4BT. People call it the M-TDI. Makes it so you don't need drive by wire and mangle a wiring harness to a Ford.

I was a member on 4BT swaps for a number of years (2011) and a member on dieselbombers. Can't log in for whatever reason, just know for sure I'm not banned. But I wouldn't go back on until I was ready to do a swap anyway, if it ever happens. Have way too many irons in the fire.

Well I'm mad...somehow something fell on to our laptop and cracked the screen near the webcam, and it spider webbed internally. So have to find a replacement screen for an Asus Q551L. Fortunately they are $80 or so...too bad it's out of warranty by a 2 months. Oh well crap happens.

Maybe Best Buy might be able to help out I. Someways. Touch screen itself doesn't work, but I can still do stuff from it.

Turns out it was the stupid heavy cast window crank that fell. Dented the aluminum screen shell and it crack the screen.

I find my 400/351m to be pretty bullet proof. Been saving up discontinued parts to build a 500+hp version as soon as I find a engine to machine. Not that the 300 isn't good, I just like the factory long stroke 400 sbf with the best cylinder head options to choose from.

Oh no doubt. I don't mind the 300, it's just when they get up in the rpm band, sounds like a freakin 2 stroke diesel...doesn't have the nice grumble of a V8. You planning on putting a blower on it or just run N/A?

Gt45 turbo and Holley efi or similar setup. There just over 1000.00 for easy tune efi turbo compatible with 550hp limit. I recently picked up the very rare 8.8:1 forged .030 TRW pistons and a Holley single plain street dominator intake. I have a Mallory 6a box that I might end up trading and getting a different one later. 408 in factory stroker with aluminum 351 2v heads most likely and custom log headers to a merge single turbo and a front mount intercooler should do it pretty easy. It's for my 1979 f150 d44/9" c6 205 setup. A coworker is trying the N/A version of the FITech efi and if it works good I might get the boost version.

Actually ours did. Last year I hit it kind of hard and the hard drive failed. Before that my girlfriend knocked an open Pepsi can and it ruined that laptop. Of course we got the warranty through Geek Squad... It's a bummer it expired in August...oh well crap happens.

Well yesterday I applied to I think job number 45 this year alone. And it's getting pretty frickin close to being 2 years out of work, and this is the first company in months to give me an email for an interview.

Last company was back in August that was looking for a worker for Ohio, even though indeed said it was for a city near me. Company before that gave me an over the phone partial interview, but never called or messages back...irritating. Glad I'm getting some bites, just hope it's a keeper and not another throw away.
