My dad learned an important lesson. We had got a new water pump for his Chevy Snailblazer since the one we put in last year, the bearings went out and it puked coolant on the road. Got the new one in and we had to get galvanized bolts for it since neither NAPA, AutoZone, O'Riley's, or Advanced Auto had a bolt kit or the water pump did not come with it. Reason we had to get a bolt kit was, even though I told my dad we need new bolts for the water pump, he insisted on using the old ones. Well guess what? As I was torquing them down to 89in/lbs one of the dang things snapped. So I pulled the bolt out and the whole thing came out in one piece and fell apart.

I believe the OE were tty (torque-to-yield) and are only good once and are garbage after that. He's lucky it didn't brake in the block. Just advice, get new hardware when you're rebuilding something if you can, it can save you a headache later on. Oh and 18ft/lbs = 216in/lbs...the pulley bolts for it need to be torqued to 18ft/lbs and my torque wrench doesn't go lat low, so I had to convert and use my in/lb torque wrench.

I'll say this, car engineers SUCK! They cut sooooo many corners that it has cost people their lives and also makes vehicles harder to repair. If the thing had an electric fan instead of a stupid mechanical one, it'd free up at least 4" between the accessory belt and radiator. No fan on or electric fan would make putting a belt on 10,000,000 times easier. And save on busted knuckles and balls.

10ft 3/8" Log Chain, 2wd Dakota, and a hacksaw... What's sad is the bumper on the Mopar was far more rotted than the fenders on the Ratsun...

Anyone need a Frontier rear window? Has a RealTree Sticker so auto +20hp!.

So this past Friday, I was driving back from getting Dairy Queen strawberry shake and was on a back road heading home. A guy towing a Bobcat brand backhoe on a double axle with duallys with a Dodge 5500 Cummins, pulls in front of me. There was plenty of room when he did it and actually got up to speed in a timely fashion...385hp and 865ft/lbs of torque will do that. Anyway almost immediately after he gets in front of me, his right rear trailer brake had locked up and was smoking badly. Now I tried to keep up with him and mind you it had been pouring down rain like crazy, so the road was still wet...but he insisted doing 60mph in a 55 on a two lane road that has seen plenty of deer crossing it. I tried flashing my lights and honked at him...but I couldn't get his attention worth a crap.

Well about 5 minutes had passed and there was enough heat built up that the outer dually blew up. Now I've heard pickup truck tires explode on the freeway when they are going 70mph and it sounds like a 12ga 3.5" Magnum going off, this trailer tire sounded like a sub-sonic 9mm without a suppressor on when it blew up. I was maybe 45 yards back when it happened. The dude didn't even flinch. If it was that loud to me and I had the AC on mid speed from the vent plus being that far back, then I swear that guy must've been as deaf as a post. When any tire bursts you pull over asap. It's only a matter of time before the rubber rips off the rim and your sparking up, down the road. Might not be the case with a dually set up, but regardless it's a bit of a hazard.

He continued on about another 5 miles and turned off. I did what I could to get his attention to no avail. I'm trying to figure out is why didn't the inner tire blow up, before the outer did? I mean the heat of the brakes is much closer to the inner dually so you'd think that would be the first to go...unless the outer was down to very little tread left and it was just dragging through the remaining tread, through the steel belt and BANG!

Not sure where that stacks up to this owner of a BMW who ran their brake pads down to nothing, ran them past the sheet metal backplate, then used the pistons to stop, then the pistons broke through the rotor. I mean...what the actual is wrong with some people? Your brakes squeal and grind for a reason, it's telling you to replace them NOW, not 3 weeks from now, but right freakin now.

Man I'm glad I don't work at that tire shop anymore. I'm average intelligence and mostly mechanically inclined...but holy crap, some people make me feel like Stephen Hawking. Better stop before i give myself an aneurysm, trying to figure some people out.

Try training a guy who has been a press operator for 30 years. Even though he has never seen the new equipment before, he already 'knows everything about it'.

I HATE CNC brake presses. Maybe cause my teacher sucked, but give me a hand brake anyway of the week. But I totally get it.

We manufacture propellers where I work; the setups can be quite difficult at times. Nothing says "frustrating" more than being handed a new hire that's already convinced that the proven process is all wrong and not how he would do it when he doesn't even know what that process is yet...... :censored:

Everyone has their own setup for everything. You can give tips and tricks and they'll do what they please. It takes me quite a bit of repetition to do something faster, maybe about 100 times. But when I have it down, I make very few mistakes.

Tell the FNG to take notes or write down what he needs to, to remember the process.

Talk about a craptastic day. So my dad ended up in the hospital because he's been having chest pains for the last few days. Well turns out that he had a mild heart attack on the lower left of his heart. According to the doctor, at his age of 64 it's common and there really wasn't anything he could have done to prevent it from happening.

He and his cardiologist have decided to take a conservative approach and take it easy for the next few days while he's at the hospital. And he won't be at work for about 2 weeks.

Makes me really want to get in better shape and change my diet. Really crappy past couple months. My dad never ends up in the hospital ever.

Well, a couple of days ago...my upper back on the left side started hurting me. The next day, It was pretty bad...wound up on the recliner with a heating pad.

Last night...it got really bad...and started hurting in front as well...and felt like inside my chest as well... After awhile I moved the heating pad to the front. I had to take very shallow breaths or it was extremely painful. It was pretty weird. Back is starting to feel much better. . .Still got pain on the front side of my chest and that feeling like it's inside...but it's much better today...but...still there...but I can take deep breaths with bearable pain...and even cough...(something that made it felt like I was being stabbed last night.)

Well while visiting my dad today with my mom, she is now in the hospital as well. Back in 2014 before Thanksgiving, she ended up with Necrotizing Fasciitis. Well in March of 2015, she had a skin graph done on her leg from the surgeons removing the dead tissue. Well, this morning the graph had a few holes and her sister packed it with gauze. Freakin fun week. Both parents in the same hospital.

Tomorrow my dad is going through a nuclear stress test to see the damage. It was moderate damage and from what I've heard you can live a "normal" life with 30% damage, just don't expect to climb everest or run marathon. Hopefully he'll be home tomorrow or this weekend hopefully.

He finally went. They did an EKG and Ex-ray. Possible blood clot. They may do a CT to check.:smiley_omg:
