Use blue HardNose. Clean it with their Marine Clean and then use Metal Ready. Slap on the blue HardNose and beat the pi$$ out of it knowing your paint will still shine spotless.

$20 POR15 starter kit? You'll easily spend that much on rattle cans. This has the Marine Clean and Metal Ready so it'll strip all the crap from the metal.

Big claims that the starter kit can cover a heck of a lot of kart. If you are fixated on blue, then your either going to spend a decent amount of cash on good rattle cans and still repaint even if it sticks to the frame, or you could get the pint of HardNose for $40. The 4oz cans of POR15 can cover 12 sq. ft. so 16oz can easily cover a kart. Especially if Big says the starter kit is enough for a kart.

Humidity should be under about 60% for spray paint to work. Also, what did you use to clean your steel? Try something like Simple Green or Dawn Dish soap and then spray it down and dry it quickly to prevent rust from forming. Then spray it once it's dry and the humidity is down. But just so you know, POR15 is moisture cured so it would be THRIVING in your current conditions. :p

like i can scratch the paint off not all the way through the primer so i think the primer is doing its job

because the humidty is usally below 60%

I didn't watch it all, but I wonder if your metal is so smooth that it can't grab. Maybe hit it with some emery cloth and then try priming. Although, if the primer is grabbing, I wonder why the paint won't grab onto the primer. Maybe try shooting the paint while the primer is still tacky?

when i painted my kart:

-used acetone on frame
-sprayed with 1-2 thin layers of primer
-sprayed with 1-2 thin topcoats

no pausing in between steps.
it was sunny and very humid.
the paint holds up reasonably well.

:iagree: with redsox, try using a coarse grit flap disk if you aren't already.

if i remember correctly you were supposed to either paint coats on top of each other within 40min, or wait like 2 days for each coat to dry. read the label very carefully!

the primer is sticking fine it is just the paint that scratches off i might try throwing it all on at one time
