its a honda clone
some say they are the anti crist but most agree they are not as good as a true honda but are getting closer and closer in quality

only as much as ther budget allows.

there the most common engine used in homemade karts, because they are easy to work with and can be modded easily. also parts from genuine honda gx200s fit them

its all up to you, some here hate Tecumseh and they give them lots of problems and some here hate clones (6.5 hp engine you linked), i would go with the clone but thats just because i have experience with them.

Which is cheaper?

people usually hate clones because they have the money to buy a name, whereas tecumseh is cheap quality, if you ask me. If clones are better than an original product, what does that say?

I've had clones, original hondas, tecumsehs and used them all quite extensively. 3 Tecumsehs slung rods (with governor) whereas the only thing I've had problems with on the clones is maybe gaskets.

Briggs still exists. Tecumseh does not.

i guess if u realy want to keep the rust of then paint it in sump oil
or u might just have to paint it.
i personally wouldnt worry about the rust, it is only on the surface, just clean it all up at the end

PICTURES:wai::wai:

Here is the go kart. I got a lot done. The next step is to attach the steering(wich i am working on now) and buying the engine, and mounting it. There is only one shock in the back because i am buying one more for more stability!!!!!!!;)

Tell me what you think...

P.s. the front TIRES I AM NOT USING!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have heard alot of bad things by these tires so i am not using them.. i am probably going to get bigger back tires and Deffenitly going to get better front tires

i see on your welds there that you don't weld all of the joint, see the little un-welded placses on the sides of your bead, its fine if you don't but it doesn't hurt.

p.s. got this info from this website, i'm not trying to say robin is the best, i'm just pointing some things out about the tech (the larger techs like on old snowblowers are decent, but i dont think the smaller ones aren't that great but i think work fine if they aren't used too often, " The Tecumseh engine was rated at 6.5HP and that was optimistic! The way it drove, it seemed that about 2 or 3 of those "horses" escaped from the barn! On a good note, the Yerf Dog 3203 go kart did come with a Comet torque converter system that did help make the most of the weak engine. In addition to being gutless, the Tecumseh was a cheap throw-away engine design. It was an aluminum bore engine that was designed to last around 150 hours. That's right. Steel/iron piston rings rode in a soft aluminum bore! Hardly what I'd call a good engine design. Combine that with "features" such as a plastic camshaft, and I decided to get rid of the cheap Tecumseh engine and put something of better quality in there.

It would have been nice to put in a much bigger engine, but to save money I wanted to continue to use the same Comet 30 series torque converter system, so I began researching engines with the same crankshaft size for use on my Yerf Dog 3203. I ended up deciding on a Robin Subaru EX21 7.0HP engine. It was not a huge increase in horsepower rating by any means, but it was a HUGE increase in terms of quality. The Robin Subaru EX21 engine came with forged rocker arms, forged crank and rod. The crankshaft was supported by double ball bearings. Engine design was more like a motorcycle, and I knew that it had much more potential to handle increased power output. Not to mention that the engine design gave it a rated life into the 1000's of hours, rather than the pathetic 150 hour rated life of the Tecumseh engine. In stock form, the superior design of the Robin engine did result in better performance. Even though it was rated at only 0.5HP more than the original Tecumseh engine, this Robin EX21 felt more powerful than that small difference" that was taken from here http://www.kartpowersports.com/yerf-dog-3203.htm

rated from the not that great, to the super nice,

small Tecumseh
no-name clone
large Tecumseh
hf clone, greyhound clone, lifan clone
briggs&stratton
Honda or robin Subaru
