2016 - Beer Crate Racer (winner)

I did, Also the Exhaust and Carb are open. So it is not a compression issue.

Well something was just a little sticky, But it is all freed up now. I talked to Poboy and we got it freed!

So I removed the Governor.
After removing the linkage arm,
I cut off the top of the arm with bolt cutters so it can slide down and out without hitting the crank. There is a washer that you need to be sure to get. on this brand new engine it was stuck on by grease and I almost left it in there!
Next a white cap comes of easily,
and there is a wire spring clip that holds the gear on tight! I had to hit it with a hammer and screwdriver to get the gear loose, and ended up removing the gear in pieces!
Everything is out now and I can put the side cover back.
Still need to plug the hole from the governor arm.

I simply threaded a 1/4" 20tpi bolt 1/2" long in to the hole from the old governor arm. It is not a threaded hole, but I had no issue carefully and without any force threading the bolt in.

So I hooked up the throttle. but the "throw" is very short. By pulling the cable just like 1/2" I can go from closed to WFO.
Do you guys think this will be an issue.
Also check out how I did the return spring. I think its kinda cool, that was just a spring I had and it fit there real nice.
Other things " I just had" Someone dumped most of a Roto tiller -engine next to my work a few months back. I "acquired" the throttle cable off of it, and it is gonna be perfect for this build!

Not sure on hand grip throttle???
With a foot pedal you can usually pick from multiple holes to adjust the amount of movement.

Now that I have the actual engine I went ahead and slotted my engine plate today. Test fit the engine and tacked the plate in place.
and
With the exact engine location nailed down I welded the Caliper mount in its place. and added a support, the mount has a 48° angle and it sits on the corner of a square tube so the support was necessary.

This is a budget build and I do not have $11.99 for a can of VHT paint for 12"s of exhaust header. Poboy mentioned polishing it. So here is how it came out. Not a mirror finish but...maybe it will slow down the rust. Here is a before and after.

I ordered this cool steering wheel on Ebay today for 29 bucks, I think it is a good deal.

I recieved my Air cleaner Kit from GoPowerSports.com and installed it.
As expected it is not going to fit within the confines of the Krate. No big deal.
However the end of it is Black Rubber. So I hammered out a copper cap.

I finished up the krate slats on the Air Cleaner side. and did a test fit.
I think I will add a small partial slat behind the Air cleaner.
I wish the air cleaner was not Blue. I have a grey one on my blue kart. Hmmm, Perfect!

Is there any protection on the copper? or is it bare copper pieces? should look interesting when it starts turning green. Is that an alligator seat cover!

Never give up! This is my 6th kart.
The copper is cleaned with many home brew internet concoctions. It started Brown and Green.
I used mostly a solution of Vinegar Salt and Flour, then used a few Lemon halves to apply and scrub. Also tried Ketchup!
In the end for the final finish I used Tarn X brand silver, copper, gold wipe on rinse off Polish.
It is finally sprayed with clear Acrylic Enamel. I like the copper color better than Penny Brown and Green.
Yes it is an Alligator seat cover! lol

I received my steering wheel today.
and got right to making a mount.
I used a 2 9/16" hole saw on my drill press to cut out a Circle.
smoothed out the rough edges with my bench Grinder.
I then lined up the center holes by eye and marked the 3 bolt holes.
Drilled them out in the drill press.
