I know I know that's what I told him, I'm not trying to taking over his build thread ,just have a a few questions and not going to ask much, because it's your build thread, and I only asked about 4 to 5 questions, all the rest had to do with his build,now :backtotopic:

Here I am modifying the sprocket to pilot to the hub. Then I take a inexpensive industrial sprocket that is 1 inch ID with a 1/4 key way and I turn the teeth off of the sprocket and cut a relief in the edge that butts up against the hub in turn making it a weldment. I will weld it to the hub thus making a wider drive and clamping surface in order to retain the sprocket hub to the axle. I still am not done with the sprocket I still have to lighten it.

Here is the angle iron bearing supports in the location that they go in,I use these on the rear axle pillow block bearings in order to keep them in their locations during heavy side loading. I set the rear axle up dead square in the frame so that I can use it a a reference point to set up the desired wheel base that I want and locate the front and rear axles square to one another. This kart will have a 15 degree king pin inclination and here are some 15 degree wedges that I cut out of the frame tubing material to set up that inclination.

Here are some shots of the main frame as I was checking the frame jacking. The seat rails look crooked in these pictures but indeed they are not! It is an optical illusion due to the different shapes of the frame. I also will trim the front axle bolts I have to use this length in order to get the desired non threaded portion of the bolts so that the wheel bearings inner races are on the shoulder of the grade 8 bolts and not the threaded part.

Nope.....they look perfect to my "internet eye ".....

Trust me....I can see more.....and detect more over the internet than your average bear......

Only in pic #2 do they look a little funny....but that's just side perspective in play.....being an artist helps detect those minor abnormalities and understand them.......

EDIT: In pic #2....you are just a hair off completely centered.....you nailed it the last one .....which shows everything is square and perpendicular in a triangular frame.....keep up the good work!!!!!

Due to the close proximity of one of the Rotary engines mounting legs near the middle axle bearing I had to countersink the bearing mount and install countersunk bolts in order for the engine to clear there.Here is the mechanical disc brake set up too.

What size tires are you using? How much ground clearance do you end up with? That thing is looking great already! With all these great projects going on, makes me feel like building something from scratch..... Simple, but cool as he##, like this kart......

13x5x6 in the front and 15x6x6 in the rear,2-1/2 inches in the front or less depending which king pin washer stack I have set up,thank you for the compliment! I designed this frame to be easy to make and plumb and cut butt and weld,I know where the center of gravity is on this design as I have worked all that out before and all I have to do to shift the weight front front to rear is adjust the seat location slightly for the desired weight transfer. This kart could be made lower but the design is made for the primary location that we drive them on which is the desert lake beds in my region so I need a little more ground clearance than normal. This frame is .072 wall and is lighter than the other ones I have built and I am sure that it will hold up as I am not done with the frame structure as of yet. With this engine she ought to move out pretty good along with the lower gear ratio that I am using. I have not named this kart yet as I have a theme that I am going to use and that will have to wait until the paint is laid down and some of the other enhancements that I have in mind. Oh and one more thing is, I can slap any other engine that I have in my arsenal on this kart real quick and easy.

Yes, I will reduce it more.Heavier than aluminum but more durable. Just a DIY lightened sprocket like the name of this site states and should be,but that is just my opinion,not BIY, Buy It Yourself :lolgoku:

10-4 I agree. A heavier DIY beats the pants of a lighter BIY everyday. Any yuppie can buy a Corvette it takes a man to BUILD a Hot Rod.

I see you use Pillow Block bearings for the rear axle. These are usually slotted. Do you ever have one slip out of square a little. Or just use grade 8 bolts and locktite to keep them squarely in place?

I have not had one move on me at all, I use grade 8 7/16 bolts with grade 8 steel lock nuts, one of the main reasons I use these bearings is because I use my kart a lot and I like to be able to grease them. I have not had to replace one yet and my friends have copied my kart design and they use them too with no problems but then again they don't drive theirs as much as I do or have.
