There's a couple of names I haven't seen in a while, welcome back guys...

Thanks for the praise & good wishes, I appreciate it; the ankle is getting better, slowly but, it'll be a few more weeks before it's back to anything resembling to normal. The worst part is that, until then, I can't drive the kart, it's my brake foot...
:smiley_omg: :ack2: :censored:  :( :mad2:

The painjob looks great as well (eventually) :D

Yeah, only six weeks between coats. The upside is IT'S ALL DONE, EVERYTHING! Frame, engine (covers & such, not the engine itself), brake brackets, brakes (yes, I painted the brakes), miscellaneous parts & the fuel tank... :wai: :bannana:

Yeah, I know...

Now, while I do hope you're mending well... Drive that sucker!!!

That's why I built it  Although, at the moment, it is a bit of a showpiece.

The way the brake is set up, I may be able to swing it without using my left foot...

I'll mail you some nifty painkillers if you'd like! :bannana:

They'll take a week or more to get here... if customs don't grab 'em...

I hope so, I did a fair bit today, plan to do a lot more tomorrow... It depends on exactly when the contest officially ends as to whether I get finished or not but, it'll be close...

Well, it's been a toough few days, what with a broken ankle & temps in the mid to high 20's (CELCIUS!) but, I soldiered on & got it finished... sort of...well, it's together at least...

Technically, I've already qualified so, this stage was just for cosmetic purposes to improve my chances in the final vote...

I can't drive it for obvious reasons but, there's also a few small wrinkles that need to be ironed out:
-one of the tyres wouldn't seal on the rim
-one of the wheels is yet to be polished
-Kurt has my rocker cover & I haven't been able to catch up with him to get it back
-the fuel line was decayed so it needs replacing as well as fitting a filter &, ATM, I'm so broke I can't afford to pay attention!

Now, on to the good bit; PICS

What, a few weeks ago, looked like this:

Now looks like this:

& this:

looks like this:

Pay attention to the sproket hub... &, relax, there's more pics below.

Oh, let's not forget that this:

used to look like this:

What do you notice about the colour scheme? Correct, it's
RED WHITE & BLUE!
if you substitute silver & aluminium for white... hey, they're white metals...

The frame itself has a silver base coat, blue tinter &, yes, the painted graphic on the back is red. The theme then carries throughout the whole kart, I even painted the brakes silver to avoid BLACK as much as possible (obviously, it's impossible with some things)

So, apart from the few little details, whadda y'all think?

AWESOME!

Earlier in this thread I said I liked the matt grey rims better,
On the final kart I think they would have looked odd;
so you were right all the time, shiny silver was indeed worth the hassle.

I'm still not a fan of panne velvet, but that's just my pannevelvetophobia.. Nevermind.

This is a beautiful go kart.
I admire the effort you put into the little details.

I hope you can ride it soon.
And please keep on updating while ironing ;)

Isn't that chain tensioner on the wrong side?

...& YOU ONLY THOUGHT TO MENTION THAT NOW BECAUSE..?

Now that I think about it, you may be on to something...

I always think about 5 steps ahead

Each to their own I suppose. To be honest, I used it coz I had it; no sense spending money on more material.

I could've used another material I have (pic below) but, it's silky which means slippery...

This is a beautiful go kart.
I admire the effort you put into the little details.

It's the details that count...

I hope you can ride it soon.

ME TOO!

And please keep on updating while ironing ;)

EDIT: Oh, now I get it, ironing out the bugs :D

New Addition

I needed somewhere to mount my kill switch so I got creative with a piece of Ali checkerplate...

Based on DaiSan76's comment last week (see post #235), I started thinking & realised he's correct, my chain tensioner is on the wrong side of the chain, which may be the cause of a problem or two...

So, after spending a few days mulling over ideas in my head, here's what I came up with:

First, I had to shorten the arm :)censored: after I just finished making a longer one), then I had to make a new anchor sleeve (I didn't want to cut the other one off coz that would mean repainting) & mounting bracket.

I found a piece of 4mm steel thet was already bent to about 80*, cut it to size, "adjusted" the angle to a bit closer to 90* & drilled holes to match the width of the engine mounts.

I then bolted the bracket to the front engine mounts, positioned the tensioner arm assembly (with the anchor sleeve attached) & clamped it in place. A few tacks, remove the clamp, test & disassemble to fully weld it.

Now to add a coat of paint to the bracket & put it all back together...

Oh &, yeah, I polished the tensioner arm, it's a sickness... :lolgoku:

Thanks for the prompting DaiSan...
