Well....the big concern with running a performance cam with stock springs....is....it just might not work very well....

Now we all know it's ok to run the stock set-up without a governor....but a cam without the proper springs can cause some unexpected results....aaaannnnd....they're not good!

The springs could break, allowing the valves to get very friendly with the top of the piston....which isn't very friendly to the engine...(or wallet)!

There might be other consequences I'm not even thinking about.

I wouldn't do it....

If I'm correct the poundage on the springs is due to expected rpms of the motor....heavier springs, higher rpms....lighter springs less rpms.
So I wouldn't think that would change due to lift or duration. But I'm here cause I DON'T know it all sooooooo. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Let's take Bob58o's Dyno Mod2 cam he listed the specs for. Looks like a lift rule cam with a lot of duration thrown at it, or what's known as a square lobe cam. The Mod2 cam will have a pretty fast ramp rate being a square lobe, and stock springs don't stand a chance of not floating even though it's a stock lift. I'd run 22lb springs with that cam, and probably chromoly pushrods given the fast ramp as the stockers would probably be flexing.

Something I didn't see mentioned was running a exhaust retainer and lash cap on the intake. Floating the intake valve without it can lead to a dropped valve when the retainer pops off. Stainless valves with automotive retainers would be the next step up.

Man things add up quick , and I'm not even professionally racing!
The more I learn ......the more expensive my habit gets.

Help

We're to ride tonight, checked my oil and it was low so I added what the dipstick said was enough oil. Started my kart ...fired up idled perfect for 3 minutes...went to take off and it popped through the carb and shut off. Went to start again ( with a starter motor for karts ) and she kept popping from the carb. Checked oil and it was WAYYYYY over full. Drained oil , cleaned plug and she started right up and idled FINE for a while but any throttle and the carb would pop and it dies .
What do I need to do to fix my mistake?:mad::mad::furious2:

Carb bowl emptying? Is fuel getting to the carb?

or maybe

Fuel pump causing too much pressure for stock needle valve seat - flooding engine - causing plug to blacken????????????????

Or a bad seal on the carb/intake, like I have?

Just speculation and guessing here. I know you said it wasn't an issue before, but for a few bucks in a T fitting and some hose... it might be worth testing.

Fuel flow to carb is solid....Gonna unbolt head tomorrow to see if I still have oil in combustion chamber, every time I start it and check my plug it is coated (slightly)in oil ; also gonna boil carb in lemon juice to see if that is part of the problem. Cleaned with carb cleaner , made idle more consistent but still dies (and backfires through exhaust) with any throttle .
May install fuel return line tomorrow just to eliminate that as a possible issue.
Still taking suggestions on anything I may not have considered.

Hopefully adding some new Yardcart videos tomorrow!

Why would oil/gas be coming out the top of my fuel pump? Checked diaphragms inside pump everything seemed normal .

Heck yeah !!!

Well when I get home today my son ordered these parts for me for an early father's day gift.
We know I need 32 lb springs so I'm ordering them on Mon. And I will be ordering a 14cc head shortly after cam install, anything else I forgot that I forgot to order to make it work together properly? I believe I'm gonna need a larger carb but not sure what size to get and there are a lot of different choices. I'm gonna try my current carb because my current set up runs waaaaayy to rich but I suspect problems with the carb so unless told otherwise I'm gonna get a new one. Any suggestions as far as carb size ?or additional parts I forgot?
I've got motor completely torn down in preparation and would like to do it all at once and just once. I read you guys advice to Bob and don't want to try to do to much all at once but from my remedial research it seems I need to do at least 2 or 3 things for this cam to work properly.

Anyone here used Dynocams F~275 cam ?
If so; what did you think?
Well when I get home today my son ordered these parts for me for an early father's day gift.

i'll be keeping an eye out for you posting a vid of the f-275 in action.
i have the 275 cam (its actually .276 lift & i have the non F series) but i want to see yours in action before i decide to send mine back. the powerband, due to the high duration and LSA, wont kick in until higher rpms but when it does it should be stronger than the stock cam.

ALSO: DON'T FORGET YOUR (i think 8degree,if you dont have billet flywheel) IGNITION TIMING KEY! either that or find out how to grind on the current one.
