I was hoping to find an engine rebuild kit. I can look up all of the parts in the Hammerhead part list separately, but I think it will be much more expensive that way.

It’s not the solenoid. I jumped it to make sure. The more I think of it, if the starter clutch were locked up in the engagement position, the starter should still have enough torque to turn the engine over. This has to be one of the bearings.

On mine, the starter doesn’t spin. It just clicks. I also checked the clutch and the driven pulley. They are good.

GY6 Engine ID I thought all GY6 engines were basically the same and parts were interchangeable. But someone told me they have different variants. Is there an engine ID number? If so, Where can I find it? This is on a hammerhead GTS 150.

I’ve never worked on a motor with a starter clutch. What happens when it fails? When I turn the engine by wrench, it makes a screeching sound. But won’t turn at all with the starter.

Thanks for the info. I need to do more research on the starter clutch. I’ve never worked on an engine that has one.

I ordered the new Gates belt, a new variator, and new rollers, I’m trying to install them and can’t get the belt on. I watched a video and the guy was able to hold the rear cluctchpulleys open and stick the belt down in there. That gave plenty of slack at the variator end. But I can barely move...

Thanks for the comments. I've been looking up the parts I need in the Hammerhead parts list and searching for that number on Amazon or Ebay. I've saved a lot of money vs buying from HH. I've had good luck so far.

When I tried digging the melted plastic and rubber rollers out of the variator, I scarred up the roller pockets. So I found a new one on ebay for $25, so that what I'm gonna get.

In buying a few parts for my son's go cart, I am seeing parts that are listed for scooters with GY6 motors and for go carts with GY6 motors. Is there a difference on any of these, or is a GY6 the same motor regardless of what it's used on?
