In buying a few parts for my son's go cart, I am seeing parts that are listed for scooters with GY6 motors and for go carts with GY6 motors. Is there a difference on any of these, or is a GY6 the same motor regardless of what it's used on?

From my experience, the emissions systems are much more complex on the scooters since they are street-legal. They have EGR and a vacuum fuel shut off. The ATVs and go karts don't have either, but most parts should swap like the carburetor, spark plug, etc. The fan housing is different on the non-EGR engines. Also, there are a few different stators with varying numbers of coils and two and three phase designs. There are also a couple CDIs in use. Check the number of pins on your model before ordering.

Many GY6 engines are similar but that doesn't mean parts interchange. The best bet is to try & buy OEM parts or go to the manufacturer's site to look up parts if possible. American Landmaster buggies use DC CDI modules, most other brands use AC CDI modules for example. Some buggies ship with internal reverse, some external. Hope this helps.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments. I've been looking up the parts I need in the Hammerhead parts list and searching for that number on Amazon or Ebay. I've saved a lot of money vs buying from HH. I've had good luck so far.
