i have a briggs flathead 3hp that has sat for a few years with a half a tank of gas. i changed the gas and oil and it wouldnt start. it has spark and i hear it breathing air. im thinking the carb is gummed up and also the pickup tubes. so i am going to get some carb cleaner and hope it works...

so it appers that my current 5hp briggs has a worn crankshaft bushing. my friend is selling a briggs 5hp for 50 dollars. running. it was made in 83. mines is 95. the only problem with it is the crankshaft is only about an inch long. i was thinking i could swap the crankshafts but if i was going...

my briggs 5hp flatty is running great. BUT i noticed alot of black oil on the horizontal fins of the engine. i just changed the oil a few days ago. i cant see where its comming out of. does anyone have experience with this problem before?:huh::huh::huh:

i need to figure out a way to keep tension on my chain with out a tensioner. i am useing a band brake on the clutch so it will not work.. my engine plate is slotted but it always looses tension right after take off. would putting afew washers under the engine work?

i noticed if i barley pull on it it moves back and forth slightly. is this normal?

i noticed a black spot on the stock filter so i just put a rubber cap on the part where the tube connects too. isnt it just a EPA tube that recycles air back into the air filter? am i going to have any problems because of this?
