    Building for torque t

Denny has some good points but since you are not looking for any speed but what kind of terrain are you going to be riding on--flat or hilly and how much load are you talking about? Live axle or stub axle? Are we talking #35 CHAIN 0R #420 chain? with you 12/60 you would be going 23mph with...

Don't know if I need to buy a belt or something else.

Your original picture show an asymmetric driver and a symmetric driven so no belt is going to work for very long based on the driven unit. By the way the driven unit is also facing the wrong direction it should be inboard mounted.

Getting really annoyed now [CVT malfunctioning?]

I have no clue what you mean by "it's broken in now" . Max-Torque only dealt with symmetrical belts because they are easy to measure when it was time to replace them. I can only give good advice on symmetric belts but I can try and do a little cross over help for what it is worth on an...

Getting really annoyed now [CVT malfunctioning?]

With the floating sheave off the engine check the clearance under the belt. I like to have the thickness of three business cards. You don't want it tight and you don't want it sloppy. Sloppy it slams into engagement which will shorten the life of the t/c. You said yours unit was a series...

How to determine Inboard or Outboard driven pulley for Torque Converter?

Murray used both Comet and Max-Torque for their karts. Does your kart have the rack and pinion steering which they used on their rider lawn mowers? How about a picture of that unit? The Honda 270 is a 1" crank so you will have quite a lot of hole drilling in the motor mount plate.

    Wanted Manco Indy Rear Wing

Denny - over in Mayberry you have time to research the dates when the first question was asked but I just looked at the recent post where someone was offering a wing. I will try and get smarter the next time and check the history.

    Wanted Manco Indy Rear Wing

You might want to rethink the larger wheels. You will have to change gearing and most like switch from a clutch to a torque converter and there isn't much room in back under the body for a torque converter. Most of the body karts made by Manco and Bird were just a single clutch system. Action...

Carter 2 Seater with Tecumseh 6.5 HP engine

The biggest difference between the two series, the 20 versus the 30 is the 20 is symmetrical --pulleys are evenly angled on both sides and you had to build your own jackshaft to hold the driven unit. Both series offer a 6" driven and a 7" driven but on the series 30 you would get the 6" driven...

    torque converter gear ratio question

Should have gone down in size rather than up. The bolt hole pattern around the crankshaft is important for matching up the plate on the TAV 30. How about a couple of pictures of the engine showing the crankshaft and bolt pattern around the engine. Also, a picture of the axle you are work with...

    torque converter gear ratio question

The crankshaft has to be drilled and tapped and have a 3/16" keyway the full length of the crankshaft. The crankshaft HAS TO BE AT LEAST 2.297" long which is the standard go kart crankshaft length. If the engine has a taper to it don't bother wasting your time with the engine, you got free off...

chebly sobra -- don't leave us hanging we want to know what you are going to do. I am a little partial to those cars myself.

Jackshaft assembly BKS TC GO FUR

Your jackshaft has a 3/16 keyway NOT a 1/4" for the simple reason the driven has a 3/16" keyway and that is how they are broached. The BKS karts was one of the best single seater back yard go karts made. Another suggestion on drilling the shaft for the roll pins. It is best to drill into the...

Question about sprockets and chain sizes.

It must be a China clutch drum because Max-Torque doesn't make a 10 #428 sprocket? We do make a 12 tooth #428 sprocket for Europe, but I just have never gotten any demand for the 10 tooth just because in the States we either use a #41 sprocket or a #40 sprocket -- there is no such thing as a...

Question about sprockets and chain sizes.

Damgaardr-- you are absolutely correct, #428 chain has to have both sprockets cut to fit the larger roller in the chain. They are not interchangeable. And grinding the clutch sprocket to fit the larger roller is a waste of time because if the sprocket is cased hardened you are taking away the...

    Go kart project

Are you going to drive them around on the street are are you going to put them in parades? You can very easily just use a clutch with the correct gearing and tire size but if it is a lot of stop and go driving then you definitely would want a torque converter. The biggest problem with the t/c...

    Cranks But won't start

Another thing to look at is pull the flywheel and make sure the key has not sheared. This will throw the timing off and she will never start but will crank until the battery goes dead. Just had this happen on a West Bend and not one of those things you ever look at but that was the problem, put...

    Clutch overheating

I looked again at the kart and those cross pieces you put in for the engine will NOT be stiff enough. They will flex too much when those tires bit in. Plus you don't have any forward movement for the engine to compensate for chain stretch. You would have been better off with a piece of angle...

    Chain skipping

Your very first picture the roller seems to lifted up in the front sprocket but in the smaller sprocket it looks to be well seated. I would concentrate on the front sprocket that one looks to be wrong but it could be your picture also but heck you are looking for suggestions and that is what we...

    Chain skipping

The 1/2 inch chain looks good in most of the sprockets. The only thing I would double check on and that is to make sure you don't have a #428 sprocket in your mix. ONLY 428 chain will fit that sprocket. Yes #41 , #40, #420 and #428 chain are all 1/2" pitch but the #428 chain has a much bigger...

    Clutch overheating

Most people like to buy a running machine. You already know a clutch will not work. Even if you changed to a t/c you have to increase the rear sprocket to at least 60 teeth. It is a nice kart but if you want to get a good "buck" for it you will have to put some money into it and once you do...
