    Engine suggestions

Brown Stain - very good recommendations and easy enough to do for most people that have some mechanical ability.

Vertical Shaft Lawnmower Engine for Go-Kart

The other thing about vertical engines is the shaft size is NOT your standard for a clutch which will complicate your design even more. Denny advice up going to a horizontal is very good advice.

power wheels with snow blower motor?

If he is going to go through all that work, take the crank down to 3/4" and rekey with a 3/16 keyway. All clutches and t/c are a lot cheaper in the 3/4" than 1". To put a 12hp engine on that frame is more excise in futility than most people need. There are much better engine sizes to go with...

    New Build Break question.

Just some other thoughts looking at the picture closely. There is no adjustment for the chain tension-- cannot move rear wheel back, cannot move your idler up or down and the motor mount plate maybe isn't slotted since the piece of steel is so thick but you are in the design stage. You can...

    New Build Break question.

Too much power, you will be on your butt more than riding. I would look for or swap that engine with someone that has a Honda with a 2:1 gear reduction built into it with the wet clutch. This would make your project much easier to get a speed that you can handle. And yes figure out a GOOD...

    Stuck on shaft

Use a propane torch to the cam shaft for the first 2 " of the shaft closes to the crankshaft and heat it up and then try tapping it off. Most likely just rusted on there. Or if it got red Loctite the heat will make it come off. It isn't worth saving because it cannot do anything, it is just a...

    Torque converter belt jumping/ slipping

Wow, the Wright brothers certainly could have used you at Kitty Hawk. Very nice design and you got it to work. Hard to tell but the belt looks to be pretty loose. I also don't see the bushing on the driver. The clearance under the belt should only be the thickness of three business cards is...

Manco Dingo Clutch smoking and won't move

Wow as Heler Keller use to say to me, good eye. I saw the one slot and made a bad assumption there was another slot in the rear. Looked but couldn't see it, and three bolts holding an engine is not a good idea. He will be busy with his Dremel.

Manco Dingo Clutch smoking and won't move

Go back to his original pictures, slots are already there, someone move the engine over so they would not have to buy a new T/C and went for the clutch only which will not work on the large tires. Look how they lifted the engine up on stilts to get proper chain tension. He was clever but was...

    Chain stretch?

You can always use #40 chain on a #41 sprocket, but you cannot use the #41 or #420 chain on the #40 sprocket. The nice thing about using the heavier chain is now you can get away with a slight misalignment, say .050. The #40 chain is worth the extra couple of bucks. The chain that starts...

Manco Dingo Clutch smoking and won't move

Rear tire looks to be bigger than 12" in diameter. If it is bigger than 12" get yourself the torque converter. I would be willing to bet it had a torque converter on it in the first place since the clutch you have now is a 10 tooth #41 sprocket. Manco bought 12 tooth #35 chain on the single...

Do I need a TC for a Live axel. 😅

Just so you know the facts. The majority of go karts built in the US were clutch karts not t/c. It is the tire size that dictates when you move up to a t/c. Karts go faster with a clutch which is why all racing go karts are clutch karts be it a disk style or a shoe clutch, dry clutch or oil...

    series 20 torque converter ?

Denny - Comet had both springs for the 20 series --same spring for the 20 and 30 series. I am sure Certified Parts carries both style springs still. The series 20 does require you to build your own jackshaft which is why the majority of people will go with the series 30 which normally comes...

    Go kart wheels always turning.

Heck, you got some great rivers, wonderful fishing and you can eat the fish you catch. I love fishing and head up to Canada once a year to eat walleye that were swimming 10 minutes before we stop for the shore lunch. I don't eat what I catch in Illinois just because we have done so much damage...

    Chain stretch?

The two biggest cause of chain stretch is slamming on the brakes. You stop the axle but the engine is still trying to turn the axle and the chain take the punishment. The other thing that will ruin a chain is going as fast as you can and then spin the wheel to do a donut and you end up going...

    Go kart wheels always turning.

Denny -- I was over in your GREAT state yesterday visiting the event in Portland, IN. I go each year for one or two days. I was looking for a Homelite 100 engine but no luck. Need it for a guy over in England. Found him one a couple years ago and now he wants to run duals. The Vintage Motor...

    Chain stretch?

Move up to #40 chain it is a lot stronger. #41 and #420 chain are the same thing except #420 is pre-stretched #41 chain.

    Go kart wheels always turning.

I was at a race in New Castle, IN so I was no where near the old computer. My computer only works in Naperville. I looked at the pictures and he has too many washers on the end of the driven unit. It was meant to have some float since it is outboard mounted and it is a series 20 clutch. The...

    Go kart questions

I was not talking about the axle sprocket, I am talking about the sprocket on the jackshaft. Adding teeth to the axle would slow it down not speed it up, but adding teeth to the jackshaft sprocket would increase the speed of the kart. Sorry I wasn't clearer in my explanation, my fault.

    Go kart questions

Honda engines are very good and it was the most popular racing engine in Canada until the engine builders price it out of the market. Take the governor complete out of the engine and you will have a good consistent fast engine that will last a lot longer than a predator. As for the pulley...
