This is what frustrates me about MDF, as long as I can see brown on the edge, it is not sealed. And with just paint it will ALWAYS show brown.

Yikes you are in the middle of the middle of not much. Not nowhere, because it is The USA. To remove that broken bolt, you just need a sharp metal drill and an extractor. The tools are cheaper than the new part or a professional hand.

Sealing up "end grain" on MDF is not a task for liquids of any kind, they will continue to soak in and cause some degree of swelling of the edges. I recommend using a caulk (a paintable caulk). I have used that appliance paint on plywood bathroom cabinet doors; primer, spray, sand, spray, sand...
