Before we plug our business here, let's try to help another karter out and save him some $$$ if possible, here at DIY GK. Blaz owns a shop of his own as well.

6.5 hf shuts off when running

It gets slightly repetitive! :P I made sure to run it dry too before I put it away. Shut off the fuel supply and let it idle til the carb is empty. This seems to help too.

6.5 hf shuts off when running

I only put some stabilizer in my tank since I'm still in the process of getting a new driven spring and buttons, and well, the kart's sitting for a while.

What go kart clutch would fit this chain?

Probably not. You'd probably want a brake handle lever if you want hand controls.

    2 speed belt clutch

:iagree: I, too, have spent many math classes scratching numbers into my note book figuring my top speed and gear ratios, especially with a CVT in the mix. My low, my high, speed with 18" tires and 3600 RPM clone, etc. What speeds I could've had with the XR100 motor I ended up selling :(...

6.5 hf shuts off when running

Like said above, higher octane gas is only good for high compression engines to prevent knocking. In high compression engines, the compression alone can compress the fuel air mix to the point where the mix detonates prior to the spark firing causing the internals to knock. An average kart...

    2 speed belt clutch

Your first gear is going to burn up belts. The same 6:1 approximation still applies to belt tensioner clutches. Having the motor set to always run at WOT may not be a great idea. How about find a way to tension one belt and lock that in then to work your throttle up, disengage 1, engage 2...

Mine was in similar shape. I sand blasted it and get it all cleaned up. It was well worth the elbow grease and effort. I promise you that these are the same piece lol!

6.5 hf shuts off when running

^^^ What was the point of this? And Sta-bil is a stabilizer that helps gas keep when it's going to sit for a while and would otherwise get stale and varnish.

    street kart project gets rolling

Just a quick question about that frame, as I've saved the photo with far off dreams of making one some day, what is the inner width for the motor mount rails? And is there a reason that tube doesn't extend to the rear? Is it to keep flex centered and balanced?

I hate when teachers say this! Encyclopedias have errors too, so they aren't the be-all-end-all.

    Set Screws

I've twisted the L shaped ones on particularly tight set screws. I ended up putting a torx bit into a 1/4" socket and torquing it free that way.
