Some fuels seem to degrade faster than others, and I believe storage conditions factor in. I have had very good luck too, but now I use StaBil as a matter of habit anyway. I HATE cleaning carbs.

It gets slightly repetitive! :p I made sure to run it dry too before I put it away. Shut off the fuel supply and let it idle til the carb is empty. This seems to help too.

If you will stop your habit, you will stop cleaning carbs....
;)

What?

I think we have a failure to communicate here. I DON'T have to clean my carbs. That's the point. When I'm putting something away short term, I shut the fuel valve off and run the carb dry. For long term storage, I run StaBil through with the fuel, then run the carb dry, then store the fuel in tanks or jerry cans.

I tend to add StaBil to fuel as a matter of habit for equipment that only get used occasionally, or a whole tank lasts a long time, to avoid carb-clogging mishaps.

It has been a very long time since I have had to clean one of my own carbs.

I have had to clean the carbs of used equipment that I have newly aquired. If the PO had used the above methods, I would not have to...

Do you even know what the octane level indicates??? Octane indicates the resistance to detonation, as in, the temperature at which the fuel/air mixture ignites. Contrary to popular belief, higher octane fuel WILL NOT make your engine faster or more powerful and IS NOT cleaner than regular ol' 87 octane.

exactly! I get told all the time you know that 110 octane wont make your car faster and I always say its a pre 1970 block and it has high scompresion it doesnt like 93 octane at all. Why cant people understand this?

Okay, let's back this up a notch or two. It was stated above that this StaBil/Lucas swampwater goo mix was a CRITICAL step in carb cleaning. I still disagree, and fail to understand why it was stated as such.

With regards to this, "it's nice if you don't have fuel"-

I know gas is getting more expensive all the time, and most of North America is over $4.50/gal, buy why in Dog's name would you burn that mojo mix you talk about? I know full good and well it will work out to be a ot more per gallon!?!?!

THIMK!

And once more for the masses-

Raising the octane rating does jack diddley squat on a low compression engine. Write it down, it'll be on the exam.

I assumed this was basic knowledge. My 1979 Traans am has high compresion I estamated 10.5:1-11.0:1 it knocks like a like a rock tumbler on pump gas I run 110 octane aand up not for speed but so I can enjoy my car plus who wants to pay $7.25/gallon:furious2:
