New Guy Qs re: w/ older Tecumseh Model ohh60 6.0 Yardstar

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the 2 lower ports are used for draining and the upper is used for checking the oil level and filling easier. Don't quote me though lol.

40 series torque converter and axle gear size

What do you mean by "forget what these guys said"? I'm the only one that was posting on his feed and I literally gave him the info from a quick Google search. He said he was running out of time so I kept it simple. He said he was looking for more torque vs top speed and what I told him will...

40 series torque converter and axle gear size

Yes unfortunately. Unless your sprocket on your clutch can be switched with a 10T. Normally with the bigger engines, bigger tires, and bigger karts you're going to want to use a torque converter instead of a clutch anyway. I bet that thing is pretty quick though lol...oh and don't forget, you...

40 series torque converter and axle gear size

To find the gear ratio, divide the lower tooth # by the upper tooth #. So 48/14=3.43. That means your gear ratio is 3.43:1....by switching to a 10T and 60T sprocket setup (60/10=6), the gear ratio would be 6:1

40 series torque converter and axle gear size

Yeah you're in good shape for a 40 series. And yes and no. For torque you want your upper sprocket with less teeth and your lower sprocket with more teeth. It would be the exact opposite of you were wanting top speed. Since you like the mid tho, you could try getting the torque converter and...

40 series torque converter and axle gear size

What size is the bore for your engine? What size engine? A torque converter will definitely help with adding torque. As far as sprockets go, a 60T will give much more torque but if you're wanting more mid, you could always opt for the 54T. It really depends on where you'll be riding most, how...

Need Guidance to parts for Big Thunder, Full restoration

Original isn't always best lol. From what I can see, I'd go with a 40" long 1" diameter solid steel axle with 1/4" keyway through it. This will be strong and allow for adjustments in case you need to change anything up. They have a kit at BMI for $150 but just the axle for $50. The kit comes...

    I’m new here!

You could always change the front setup and put some new spindles on it or new hubs as suggested before. It just comes down to how much time/money you want to spend on it vs how much time/money you want to spend on trying to find something that'll fit what you got now.

    5 hp tecumseh power sport

I've got a decent running 6.5hp Tecumseh with a new carb, air filter, and spark plug on it. Even have a brand new ignition coil for it just in case (got the old one working so I didn't install it). I gave it a fresh oil change but that'd have to be drained if shipped. I'd do $50 on it plus...

    Axles for IRS

Worst case scenario is you could install a carriage and weld up a new plate. Then you could run a straight axle and still mount the lower part of the shocks to the carriage. Might be a lot of work but just brainstorming here lol

    hey guys new here

Welcome. Post away when you're ready.
  15. ONE-EYE

Hi I am new here, have a quick question....

I'd use #420 chain and a 40 series torque converter personally. A good clutch that can handle that won't be cheap but neither will a 40 series TC more than likely...just make sure to order an actual comet belt if you go this route. It'll last longer.

    Need help sourcing Manco rims

My original fronts are 15x6-6. I actually am going thinner to a 15x5-6 so I found some rims at BMI KARTS on sale for about $16 each. My originals measured 4-1/2" bead to bead so the new ones now measure 3-1/2" bead to bead. They also carry a 3-1/4" measurement as well. I'd recommend checking out...

What gearing combos have you tried and what worked best?

I'm running a 60T lower and a 10T upper. I had thought about going with a 54T lower for ground clearance but decided I'd rather have the extra torque verses top speed. I live on a hill and I'll be driving more in grass and on hills rather than pavement or on level ground. Plus I'll be carrying...

    Removing jackshaft.

They normally slide right off. Super slick and a gentle rubber mallet swing got me there. Im not 100% without seeing more of your setup. Make sure there aren't any C-clips anywhere besides what's on the driven itself.

    Ground up build

Yeah I try not to be. Just really wish I'd have learned sooner. Everybody kept telling me not to do it because since I only have one eye, if I accidentally flashed myself, I could end up completely blind. I did use a friend's once though and made some bolts for his motor for him. After I got...

    Help me fix this mess.

You're going to take it somewhere? Heck after you do that and buy the rest of the parts, you might as well just get a full kit for $150 from bmi karts. You get an axle, 54T sprocket, a drum or disk brake, extra flanges for welding if you need to, both bearings, end nuts, and 4 axle clamps...
