    Steering columb.

No not really, mines 850mm long and weighs 2Kg, it cost about 8 quid. I used a 3/4" pillow block for a mount which cost about a fiver from eBay. One end of the column joins a UJ at the steering rack and I have a weld on boss for a quick release steering boss at the other. Nice and sturdy and...

    Steering columb.

I used a length of 3/4" bright steel bar for my steering column, nice and strong and cheap too, available in any length from your local steel supplier.

Made some good progress over the last few days, despite having forgotten how to weld over the winter :) The lower wishbones are all but finished now, just waiting on some weld nuts to arrive through the post. The wishbones have been the hardest part of the project so far, the trick is to make a...

    UK Arachnid build

I'm back. After a long and cold winter, work has started up again on the Ah-crap-nid. Made some good progress today cutting up the tube for the lower wishbones, tomorrow I should be able to get them welded up and start on the mounting brackets. It's good to be working on it again, I'll get some...

    Arachnid Build in NOLA

I just remembered something important about the front suspension block, Bill identified a mistake in the plans with the width of it. Have a read through his thread and double check. If you build it to the plans measurements, then the steering rack will throw the geometry out.

    Arachnid Build in NOLA

The very best of luck with the build, it's hard work. Looking good so far and good choice on stretching the frame, it's a bit late now but I would also suggest making the front wider, it's very tight for your feet once the top rails go in. I don't think it will affect you too much because of the...

    Arachnid Build

I wish I had stretched my frame by another couple if inches, I can only imagine how cramped the standard frame is. I also think that the foot well area should be a lot wider.

Bill that is awesome. I really hope Robert takes this opportunity to respond

You could file or grind two flats half way down the rod, then grip that in your vice. That should stop it from rotating.

Guys have you checked out spiderkarts.net? Robert has been answering some posts, and he has apologised in Grizz's Ah-crap-nid thread :)

Thanks Grizz, I'll stick with what I've got then, as I don't think fine adjustments to the geometry will be much of an issue with the Ah-crap-nid.

Got one wishbone welded up and it wasn't too bad, although I spent quite a lot of time making a jig which really helped. I have another question for you all though. My plan at the moment is to weld a small plate over the open end of the wishbone with a tapped hole and then weld a nut onto that...

    Arachnid Build

Grizz I'm not sure if you've had a look at this engine GUIDE but it mentions on page 55 that the max permissible angle of installation is 20 deg. It sounds like you are going to mount your engine at an angle to compensate but it may not be nesscesary.

Thanks Bill, it was a nice job to do. I do have the boots, just had them off while I was working out the width. There were two aluminium bushes in between the rose joints and the rack which I removed to reduce the width a little more. Made a start on one of the wishbones today, now that's a...
