Wobbly, the only issue I can see is adjusting your setup. Course thread means each 1/2 turn will move your clevis joints almost twice as much as fine thread would. Probably not a big issue on these karts. The plate with nut welded to it a good idea, for the added threads.

What Bill and I did was use longer nuts (not sure what they were called, but they were about an inch long.) We just ground the flats down so that 2/3 of the nut fit inside the arm and then welded them is place. Now we know we have a full inch of thread for support.

Didn't think to take any pictures of that before welding in place, but maybe Bill did.

Thanks Grizz, I'll stick with what I've got then, as I don't think fine adjustments to the geometry will be much of an issue with the Ah-crap-nid.

I'm back. After a long and cold winter, work has started up again on the Ah-crap-nid. Made some good progress today cutting up the tube for the lower wishbones, tomorrow I should be able to get them welded up and start on the mounting brackets. It's good to be working on it again, I'll get some pics up once I make enough progress.

Made some good progress over the last few days, despite having forgotten how to weld over the winter :)

The lower wishbones are all but finished now, just waiting on some weld nuts to arrive through the post. The wishbones have been the hardest part of the project so far, the trick is to make a jig to hold everything in place, and then clamp the hell out of them while tacking them together.

All welded up and nearly finished. I'm quite pleased with how they have turned out apart from a few dodgy welds here and there.

Next job was to mount the seat. I wanted to raise the seat up and tilt it backwards to make it more comfortable. One of the major design flaws with the Ah-crap-nid is that the frame is way too short for an adult, I stretched the frame by 5" in the early stages of the project, but with hindsight I should have made it 10". Two rails welded to the frame with a 5 degree angle to raise the front of the seat (some rough welds in there).

And the seat mounted on the rails. I'm really pleased with how this has turned out, the driving position is very comfortable.

I wanted to mount the seat as far back as possible in the frame to increase leg room, which meant having to remove the top bar at the back of the frame. I have bridged this gap with a straight bar, it looks a bit rough now but I'll tidy this area up when I add in a roll cage.

The wishbone brackets I have sourced are a little rough, and they also need around 10mm removing from the height so they interface better with the frame. Here's a before and after shot.

Still a very long way to go, and to think I chose this design because I thought it was quite simple!
