Around here they seem to thrive like crazy in Iceplant. Then when it rains you will see literally hundreds of them out on the concrete. I know you like to garden so I don't think you would really want them around. I have a garden book on DIY chemical and poison free pest control titled "Dead snails leave no trails" they can be a real pest. Mostly just fun for little boys to freak out little girls:stir:.

They bubble quite nicely too if you throw salt on them. I remember kids doing it when i was young

I already have hundreds of snails in my garden and they are everywhere.....but they're not Helix snails....those are much less common....

Perhaps even worse are the pillbugs...the snails I can pretty much keep in check, but when the pillbugs get going....I have to resort to chemical bait...

Well....had a pretty good day.....don't have a whole bunch of pictures to prove it, but I worked a lot on getting the garden ready for spring.....here's a shot of one of my weed filled beds....

So while pulling weeds....I came across these little hatchling Western Fence lizards....(one of my faves....) ....and it made my day to know that my little population is propogating.....

Finally.....this chipper shredder never moved from where it is....since I installed a HF wheel.....the thing went to crap anyway....:lolgoku:

Ok....well...to kinda follow up....I weeded the bed....but now about 4 days of rain are on the way.....

Pic# 2....Shows a little bit more of an overview of that area.....I'm considering making that area a greenhouse.....

Moving back just a bit...you can see my asparagus bed.....that's sprouting shoots,...but isn't 100% clear of last years stalks....

3' to the south of that ..is my row of grapevines in raised beds (now planted with a mix of spring veg....(the screens are to keep cats from using them as litter boxes until the plants get established.....

The next pick shows an anomaly.....a section of garden actually ready.....:lolgoku:

Ok....carrying on....on the other side....a (not so ready) bed/area.....(there's a bunch of places like that).....

Pic#2....These are my fencing circles I store spent crops, leaves, pulled weeds, ect. until I can run them through the chipper/shredder and make compost....lots to do and spring is slipping up fast...

Pic#3:.....another almost ready area.....

Finally.....#4: the snails on the left are my common pests....a US quarter...and on the right....some native helix snails....as you can see...they are about 1/2 the size of the French variety....

So....here's where I'm at.....found some more this morning....sooooo.....#1: Get them to survive....

#2: Figure out what to feed them and how to house them.....

#3: Get a breeding population going.

#4: Optimize survival and production...

#5: Optimize product quality....

Since I know nothing...I'm thinking the first step is to isolate them in mason jars....tag the jars...and start experimenting.....

To start with...maybe a daily mist...and a base food of ground goldfish flakes, parsley, lettuce, swiss chard, and some selective weeds....

This could be a very short lived experiment.....

Well....There were two snails that were pretty dried up in their shells....I sprayed them both with water....one came back....I don't think the other will.....

So...so far ....none have died...and I brought one back from the dead.....

Now....breakfast this morning....goldfish flakes....."Hey, Mikey!!!! He likes it!!"

Did some more research last night....and will be setting up a habit for them in the next few days.....

So far, so good , even if I'm the only one that eats these critters....it'll be worth it....those little boogers are expensive.....(hmmmmm.....should I use boogers and snails in the same sentence? )

BTW: Once upon a time....I read a story where a woman caught her husband feeding snails and slugs in their garden....at first, she was totally flabbergasted....but after a little observation....realized these snails were trained to come get dinner....and were more than content to eat there....than hunt for food in the rest of the garden...and therefore left the plants alone...me....I'd be scooping them up and giving them a saltwater bath....but...to each his own....

JK.......It rained and I went snail hunting.....got about 60 now....good base for experimentation, but...., I'm going to have to set up a large community housing while I set up individual observation habitats.....

So, stop my friends , take a moment, to enjoy this wonderful season we are on the cusp of......and enjoy the company of loved ones and tolerated relatives.....

And I know I shouldn't really be voicing Religious opinions.....BUT....

If it's all about the Easter Bunny to you....I have some awesome recipes....one of them is a little complicated....it involves a stew pot....and a citcle dance with the lyrics....."We're gonna have roast rabbit, We're gonna have roast rabbit......

But....If that doesn't appeal to you....I also have a REALLY good recipe...for those little baby chickens they sell at the feed stores?????

Well.....went to work today....not exactly what I'm used to: demo on burned out apartments .....so....at one point....the foreman decided to group people.....

Young ,old,black,white,Hispanic.....

Needless to say....they were a bit shocked....that the 2 oldest guys one the jobsite...outperformed the crap out of any other group....I'm 58....and my partner was 51.....and ....when the boss came back
...he found us taking a smoke break.....

Which we figured we deserved .....and....wasn't challenged....the rest of these guys mid-twenties
....

The work ethic of Americas youth is pathetic. You have got 18 years on me, and I run circles around lazy, fat, whiny, stoned, 20 somethings all day. What a bunch of pansies.
Still I gotta love Texas! If a foreman tried segregating or "grouping people " by race or age here in Ca, somebody would have their lawyer on the phone in seconds. Actually probably not, but any manager anywhere is so scared that this could happen, nobody would try it. Not to mention the foreman would probably get fired due to some Corporate NO tolerance anti discrimination policy, just for suggesting such a thing.

Well...it's really not that hard to do....because people are not only prejudiced by nature....but...ethnically...show up by groups....they are more than happy to be grouped with their buddies they came to work with....or similar people....

But...the proof is in the pudding....the "you are just driscriminating against me....because of such and such"......" Ummmm. no....you just aren't doing your job!!!!!"

When I went to bed last night I could hear a constant, rhythmic tapping sound; we had some rain last night &, yep, the roof is leaking...

On inspection this morning I discovered the corrigated fibre-cement roofing sheet from the late 60's above my room was broken... guess what I'm doing today...

Ok, I've read some stories on here about bad luck. Be glad your not me. On march 11 in a ice storm the girlfriend slid into a ditch with her Chevy trailblazer (200,000 mi. and no major repairs). Blew up the transmission and transfer case.
Two weeks later we buy a 1987 Chevy conversion van, very clean and very well taken care of by a older lady and only 65,000 and change miles are on it.
We get it home I say Honey next trip into town stop and get a gallon of premixed anti-freeze and top off the radiator and overflow jug(it was a little low). Next trip into town she buys the anti-freeze. A week later one night when she came home from picking up the kids from school she said the van overheated and the oil light came on and was now running rough. When I asked her if she put in the anti-freeze she said no. :mad2: When I asked her if she kept on driving when the lights came on she said yes. :censored: I checked it out the next day and sure as sh1t blown head gaskets and the bottom end is noisy. With a new GM crate engine and parts I am now into this thing $2,250.00 plus purchase price. I hate the month of march. Did I mention I was also sick and missed work for 2 weeks with a 102 fever and respiratory infection!:censored:
