Ha ha. That seat looked like a baby car seat to me at first glance.

Funny you should say that. It is a booster seat, I took sheet metal and made a seat pan to mount it to. Added seat slides and the seat belt is a modified race car belt. My son is small so I figured what better then a seat that is made to keep kids safe in a full speed crash. I just searched the net until I found one that resembled a racing seat. Also I wanted to build it so he can keep using it. Once he is to big for the booster I can put a regular kart seat in it and he will drop down 4" to 5".
You are doing a monster truck right? If your sons head is going to be sticking out the top of the body, I am not too sure if I would want a seat belt keeping him in there if something does go wrong, like rolling
His head doesn't stick out. He fits inside of the cab.
I just wanted to take the time to tell you that you're doing a great job. Not on the kart, we all know THAT and it's obvious.
No, what I mean is, being a father. Nope, not that either. You being a DAD. Raising your son right. Spending time with him. Teaching him hard work pays off in the end, and it's worth waiting for.
If more fathers took your lead, our world be be a much better place. I tip my hat to you, Sir.... Carry on.....![]()
yes.. and no
how tight would you like to strap your kid into that seat,
from the pics I'd say he's missing an inch to get his head scratched if the kart flips.
you'll need to tighten him down really hard if you want to avoid him moving up that little..
too tight to be even slightly comfortable I assume (I bet he'll start to moan if you try!)
And that's only good as long as he wont grow.. and judging by his estimated age.. that wont be long until he's too big to keep his head safe in that kart anyways.
the cage doesn't really allow to loose the belt, since in worst case he'll still be trapped in that cage.
So as ugly as it may look in the end;
I'd say you should add single head protecting rollbar behind the seat,
something that gives him at least 3-4" of room in case he ends up upside down...
I know it's unlikely that a kart like yours will end up upside down, but still as long as it's not 100% impossible
please; rather end up with a more or less ugly part on the kart rather than having to buy a wheelchair after the first flip of it.

The seat is not at the the finished height in the pictures. its sitting about two and a half inches higher. once its mounts his head will be a good 4 inches below the roll bar. the seat base is about 5 to 6 inches high so once his head starts poking out i can pull the seat and go with a conventional race kart seat with a base height of less then an inch..
Are you going to Torque that engine really high to get the thing to even move? torquing it up takes away the speed right ?
Did you see post NO 2?? He is using an engine that has enough power to do ANYTHING. You can gear the kart any way he wants (within reason) and not have a problem moving it
no i only seen the small engine I think it was a 6.5 that he was originally going to put on it (looked like a 6.5 i can barely see anything in the pic with all the glare).I have little faith that a small engine like a 6.5 clone or hf engine will go anywhere with as much as that frame weighs. It's like putting a 8hp engine in my frame and hoping it moves lol
Even 6.5 geared at 6:1 is going to move that thing. I am not too sure if you realise that this is a mini truck. Look at the size of it compared to the kid sitting in it
