workin on the bike some more. havent heard from my friend yet about splitting the cases. hopefully done soon but i cant complain hes doing it for free

the graphics were peeling in some spots, ripped and warped so i decided to just take them all off.

the tank plastic is faded, anybody know how to restore the color?

i noticed im going to need some seals. i think this part is just to keep dirt out, the brake works good still

hmm.... never seen the metal spring on the outside, i think we have a problem.

who puts stickers on the inside of fenders?

going to have to fix a stripped out thread on the clutch cover...

i got the cases back today.

rusty bearings, and seems like chunks of metal were scraping around the walls of the cases

you can see a chunk of metal jammed in between the rod and thrust washer here

thats rough but here's a good thread repair kit that probably has the right size for the clutch cover its like a helicoil system. All Balls has a good countershaft seal kit and a crankshaft bearing/seal kit.
Are you rebuilding the top end? its only around 150 and as long as you've got it apart you may as well or atleast put a new ring(s)on

thats should work! thanks. the piston is a little discolored from heat so its going to be replaced too

and of course 2 stroke fuel

the carb needs to be checked out and probably rebuilt

thats all i can think of now..

Are your fork seals leaking? its pretty easy to switch them out but not if you don't have a seal driver they can be a pain to get seated correctly without one...i just use a piece of pvc cut in half.

i think they are leaking a little cause the shiny part is slightly wet with oil.

Oh well when you get to that point i can help you out with that or you can use youtube like I did haha there is no shortage of how-to videos on fork seal replacement its a fairly easy process just don't loose any small parts it seems the smaller the part the more important it is haha

fork seals are $30 at motorcycle superstore. also maybe i should change the oil since its lost some from leaking?

so youve done this? what brand did you get and what oil?


im going to start out at the core of this project and get a wiseco rod, $82, and all balls crank bearings/seals $41 so that i get free shipping.(over $100)

thats all the money i have yet..^

next its going to be athena complete gasket kit $39, Wiseco pro lite piston kit $105

then the rest of the parts are about $100

only thing i cant find is radiator hoses. the PO lost them all along with a bunch of hardware and motor mounts

stickers off, i cleaned all the fenders. the gas tank is sun faded but ill use the razor blade technique on that. scrape off the top layer of plastic, sand it with really fine grit, then use a heat gun (hair dryer in my case) to make it shiny

rear fender was painted, and it looked bad. so i began the very long process of scraping off all the paint with a razor blade.

neat idea, my neighbor has a ton of trees cut down and theyre just laying there on his lawn. maybe gotta ask. lol

unfortunately most people in my town dont have wood stoves. lots of big expensive houses.

yep i scrape away using the back side of the blade, takes forever and kills my fingers but ill get there

Find a place you can cut legal wood from. Then place your add on CL for dilivered firewood. Tell them you will stack it for extra.

I got by with selling firewood for years when I was younger. Being in Oregon the demand was huge for it in the suburbs. Not to mention all the logging so lots to cut from.

Truck and trailer you can make some good money if you willing to work hard. Make a simle log splitter and rake in the cash.

I seen snow where you live. Sure people do not have stoves? What about the areas around you?

Oh yah I really dig the knobby tire on the rear. Looks mean. It should toss some good rocks and who ever is behind you.

Well do you have a yamaha dealership near you? they can tell you exactly how much oil you need and the type that was stock. As far as oil i use a different weight oil for my forks (10W) than stock because i built them specifically for my weight and riding style also they were sent in to be re-valved by race tech but the oil I use is called Maxima Racing Fork Fluid. Maxima is probably one of the best lubricant companies out there.

I would just buy a Wiseco Top End Kit it includes the wrist pin bearing, circlips, wrist pin, piston, rings, gaskets you know or a Pro X kit their pistons are cnc machined and the full kits are under $100.

the piston comes with everything but gaskets. which i dont need, because i need both top and bottom end gaskets

oh i get you...Wiseco makes some good pistons I'd go with the pro lite like you first said. That site is great It can be a little hard to find stuff in but it's got all the torque specs and overhaul guides the Clymer books have

today i fixed the radiator mount. looks like it had been broken for a while and it was loose rubbing the front fender.

a little crude but it will do the job. and i ran out of black spray paint so i just painted it with primer. you cant even see it under the fenders anyways.

then i noticed something wrong with the rear rim. why is there a bolt here?

and a hole here?

and a spoke missing...

i think maybe i should have left the rear fender as is. because now everything is white except for the front of the bike. it would be hard to strip paint off the plastic in front of the radiator especially.

hmm....

I believe the bolt is a balance thing, seen that on a ton of wheels.
