The before and after tells it all, shockingly so. I agree with keeping it stock and as reliable as possible for the sale. That's the right attitude. You are likely to receive whatever you're asking for--I am just used to seeing too-high prices for stuff that resembles what your kart looked like in the before photos, or karts in even worse condition (and filthy, covered in leaves, weeds, etc.)

So, a little elaboration on the red stripe--it's just a simple red stripe that you masked off? Any pointers on that? Many, many coats of red (it's difficult to paint over black) or not? Was it sealed with a clear coat of any kind to preserve the detail?

I hope that you are correct that a potential owner will see the value of a clean, refurbished and dialed-in go kart.

The floor pan, including the red stripe, was done in an embarrassingly simple way. I lightly scuffed the entire floor pan with an air grinder sporting a worn Roloc disk. Wiped down with a rag moistened with mineral spirits. With a yardstick, established the centerline and measured off x inches on each side on top of the cross tubes and drew a dot with a silver Sharpie.

Painted the red with a chip brush (Valspar New Holland red). The paint was reduced a smidge with Penetrol. I painted wider than the stripe would be.

Let the red cure a couple of days. Ran painter's tape from cross tube to cross tube, right on the witness marks previously placed. Stretched the tape tight enough that it was true and not sagging onto the floor pan.

Pressed down the tape perfectly vertically in the center of the floor pan. Pushed the tape straight down with my finger, working from the center to the front and, separately, back cross tubes.

Repeat on the other side.

Now I had masking tape running stem to stern right where I wanted the edge of the stripe to be. The tape is placed onto the red field. Now masked off the rest of the red. Sprayed the Kart black as previously described.

Peeled off the tape soon after the black went down so that I got a clean edge.

Touched up a couple of red and black places afterwards with an artist's brush.

I hope that makes sense as it is easier to do it that to describe it.

As far as coats, no. Just one fat coat (the red) brushed on. Not sure if you would call the black spray job I did a one-coat or two-coat. I think of it as one as I did not go over the entire kart a second time. But I did go back over each area as I went along. So maybe one-and-a-half coats of spray.

No clear coat or anything. I hate two-pack paint. I consider it cheating and I do not cotton to the plastic appearance. But that is me and obviously, the rest of the world sees it differently.

:)
