I am talking about the two modern incarnations of the GT, both of which are bloody AWESOME!

Quite frankly that sounds stupid.
Even if you make a fully built v twin(which'll be more expensive than getting some sort of used car engine), it'll still be maybe 50-80 HP max, not counting the headache of adapting it to "some old 90's car", and it'll still be underpowered. Probably about the same kind of power as my dad's 67 HP Mercedes 240D.
Not impressive.
Seriously, with an auto 240D, 0-60 is 22 seconds with the slug auto transmission, and 18 seconds with the manual 4 speed.

And my dad's car has the lowest factory rear end available.
Just get an old car engine.

The Ford GT is a dream car of mine that I'll never have, I'll have a better chance buying a DeLorean (still on my list of cars to own before I leave this meat suit). I'm not sure how close any of you guys watched the GT when it was re-released a couple years ago, but this new version of it, ticked off a lot of people. Not necessarily the design of the car, but their choice of powertrain. The 2005-2006 cars had a modified version of the one from the Cobra R Mustang, 5.4L Triron V8, dual overhead cam 4 valves per cylinder, with a twin screw supercharger and a dry oil sump (sets the engine lower into the frame). When Ford released the GT for 2016, or was announced that it would not get the V8 treatment, instead it was released with the 3.5L twin turbo V6 EcoBoost engine.

The reasoning behind this is simple, the car was built to be very similar to its LeMans racecar. LeMans changed their rules before the 2016 season, naturally aspirated engines could not exceed 5.5L of displacement. Forced induction engines could not exceed more than 4.0L of displacement. So the only way Ford could run say the 5.0L Coyote V8 dual overhead cam engine, was in a naturally aspirated version. Sure they could maybe have done the Shelby GT350 5.2L Voodoo flat plane engine, but they wanted a forced induction engine.

I'm thinking that this rule change was partly why Dodge discontinued the Viper. There is nothing in the rules about running restrictor plates or tapered spacer to restrict air flow in the large displacement engines (Viper was 8.0L to 8.4L depending on year). It would make sense though, other than the load of BS of "we can't engineer this car to have side curtain air bags and safety equipment so we're going to stop production".

Yeah, a GT with a v6 was disappointing. Also sad they put a twin turbo v6 in the Ford Raptor! I'm sorry, but if I'm buying a big truck like a Raptor and spending what, $60k+ on one, I want a big and loud naturally aspirated v8!

I've heard rumors that the next gen Charger/Challenger is going to do away with the 5.7L Hemi and replace it with a turbo v6 or maybe a flat 6. As much as I love Dodge, the 5.7L is slow compared to an equivalent mustang or Camaro etc. You can supercharge the current 3.6L Pentastar and smoke the 5.7L Hemis. So a factory turbo would likely be really fast, as Dodge would not replace the 5.7L with something slower. I personally would love to see Dodge do that, and watch the 5.7L Hemi guys lose their minds

my 1990 olds has a 4 banger and she fricken rips. its na with restrictor plates removed and a burnt wiring harness. you can turbo or supercharge these things and they are drag cars. stock with restrictors removed it will peel tire on launch and its and old 4 door thats rusty as crap. oh and they made coupes.

I usually do not find out about new upcoming things until everyone else does, with the exception of the EcoDiesel lawsuit and mandatory recall, I knew about that 2 months ago. You usually find out stuff around the time "leaks" to the media crop up, however trying to weed out the BS with what's true is not always easy. For example, it was stated that Ram would not be releasing a mid-sized truck based on the Gladiator frame not that long ago. Now the media out let's are stating otherwise.

When Mopar was coming out with the Dakota in the 90s, the Jeep Commanche was discontinued, why would they compete with themselves then and even now?

Quad 4's were relatively quick for their time. But i'd refrain from saying she "rips".

I had an 87' supra turbo, 5spd, targa. Bulletproofed the engine with arp studs, mls hg etc. Straight piped, intake, chevy valve springs, stock ECU, sitting right at 11lbs of boost (max before fuel cut). The thing would roast tires through 3rd gear up hill, 2nd on flat. Did 140 with 4 people in it, and more to go.

Still though, not a fast car. Your average 1500 pickup, or v6 accord will keep up with most 90s sports cars.

I was so bummed when i raced my buddy in his 2010 tundra, and he kept up on the straight aways.

Yeah some trucks are pretty fast for what they are. I was trying to beat a truck to merge in my car (it was a newer model Tundra) and that dang truck gave me a run for my money lol! Guess those v8s are torquey off the line. I'm sure in the top end you'd pull away from one though.

The Ecoboost 4 cylinder does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds according to MotorTrend.

I'm still waiting to buy my first vehicle and I'm 26. Of course when 1/3 of my paycheck is being taken out for benefits, it's kind of hard to want to buy a vehicle. The reason I feel the El Camino and Ranchero should make a return is, now would be a great time for it. Mid-sized trucks are making a comeback, but some of us only need a smaller compact truck. Something like the Australian Holden Commodore Ute or Ford Falcon Ute would sell very well here.

I think it was limited at 110, so yeah i would have pulled him. But 0-80 on a straight away the thing was impressive. Those 5.7 i-force engines make 381/401 IIRC.
